warrenty on speakers and amps

i've been debating weather to by my system from a authorized dealer where price is say x for a sub, but i see all over the place the same sub or amp for half the ammount. the only differnce being no warrenty from the company.

has anyone out there had any problems buying from an un authorized dealer? is the 2x price tag worth the authorized warrenty?

thanks in advance for info

It's not worth it. If you buy stuff from a good brand, it's unlikely they'd die in a year which is the typical warranty coverage.
Case in point: when I got my system installed, I opted to buy my Alpine MRV-F450 from a Web dealer for $307 (shipping included). Had I bought that from the local authorized Alpine dealer, it'd have cost me $500 + tax.
This was in September 2004. Everything is still working perfectly, and I would be long out of the warranty by now.
