Upgrading sound system

I'm upgrading the sound system in my 8, tell me what you think....

All of the speakers and amp are Rockford Fosgate:

1 P4004 - 50w x 4 Amp
1 P210S4 - 10" Sub with sealed box
2 pair of FRC4368 3 way Speakers for front and back.

The tweeters are staying,

All of this with a Monster cable amp kit and 2 pac converters plus monster rcas, and proffesional installation will cost me $742.00. They give you lifetime warranty on the install.

How power does the Basic Radio have on the rx8?

The base head unit is rated at 4x25w peak. There is no published data about the RMS value.
The stock tweeters are not very good - they won't help you much. The base stereo setup doesn't even have a crossover.
IMO you'd be much better off with a 6 1/2 component setup in the front (or if you want to avoid work and just use drop-in speakers, a 6x8" component setup).
The rear speakers are 6x9.

Over the weekend I installed a 200 watt Orion amp and a 10" Kicker sub in a sealed box. It gave me the additional power I wanted without sacrificing clarity.

A suggestion to the Moderators. Perhaps it would be good to Sticky two threads in this section. Each dedicated to explanations of steps and components that need to be taken to effectively upgrade either the Base/Sports Package system, or for the Touring/GT Package.

I know at least for myself, and probably many others that don't know much about Audio systems that this would be very beneficial. And would cut down on redundant posting in this section of the forum.

All right, I'm off my horse...

Not to wander too far off on a tangent, but would a 6x8 component speaker be inferior to a 6.5 component set? The way you said this made it sound that way, but I'm not sure why.

My understanding is that the oval 6x8 speakers will be indeed inferior to the round 6 1/2" speakers... someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Besides, the only 6x8 component set I'm aware of is the Infinity 6800cs which seems to be rather a 5x7, with mounting holes for a 6x8 location.
It will surely be a lot better than the factory speakers though

It seems people have installed the 6.5 without too much effort to make it fit. I saw the Infinitis though and thought "Well THAT would make it easy." However the extra effort for the round ones is probably worth it if they sound better.

I think if sdomeone just wants to upgrade the speakers in the base stereo and doesn't intend to install an amp, going with the Infinity 6x8 set is a very good and easy way. Then, the only thing that needs any cutting is the new tweeters, otherwise it's a drop-in installation.
