Upgrading Headunit and All New Speakers - Help me Pick

So i threated to do this last summer, but I've finally decided to workover my stereo.
I have an 04 with the base stereo, no bose.
Running stock speakers, with a 12 RE Sub + Kicker 1000.1
Base sounds good but the speakers sound awful.

I want to replace the headunit and all the speakers.
I would really like to go with a double din touchscreen, with bluetooth and nav would be sick.
Really looking at the Pioneer Avic line.
http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-AVIC-X.../dp/B002EGVR6O
Thoughts on this head unit ?
I'll have to get the double din metra kit as well, and probably the Pac unit to control the stero with my steering wheel. Where are the cheapest places to get these ?

As far as speakers go, what are your guys thoughts ?
6.5 components in front and 6 x 9 in the back seem to be popular.
Where can i buy an adapter to put the 6.5's in the front, as i'm not sure I want to make mine out of lexan.

TLDR
Pioneer Avic good ?
Cheapest place to buy Metra Kit & Pac unit for steering wheel audio.
What speakers you recommend ?
Where to get 6.5 adapters for front speakers.

Thanks guys - Logan.

The Avic line is good...I am using the Avic F90BT and besides the slow start up time it has been great. Don't know if they have improved this on the newer models.

i prefer pioneer decks and infinity speakers. the best way to tune is to get a portable piano tuner (theres an iphone app) and a cd with the various mhz on it. perfect tune every time.
