I have been looking to use one of the many plug-n-play Aux devices I could buy to throw into my RX-8. The only problem is, since my RX-8 is only a '04, I had checked the firmware right now and it is only at 9.50.

Is there an easy way for me to do this myself, or am I going to have to go and pay someone to update it, or how does all of this work?

I am very tech savvy so if I have to do something techish I will be fine. I also didn't see any DIY for this on here or Google so all help is appreciated.

there is an update process but those that had the knowledge (and the tools) moved on a couple years ago. I recall it being an exceptionally difficult process as far firmware updates go.

You'll likely be better off finding an HU with a new firmware than trying to update the firmware on the one you have.

Shell has the right answer.

The firmware update was handed by a 3rd party company, which actually had a rep on these boards for a couple years, but then they ran into customer service issues, complaints started popping up, and the process was never very easy in the first place, so they just disappeared. Later attempts to contact them go unanswered.

And moving this out of DIY and over to Audio, as DIY is for when you have a set of instructions.

OK, thank you for moving the topic as well as the answers. This makes me a bit upset since now I either have to find a new HU or do some sort of swap just to get an AUX jack.
