Trying to locate some ignition power in the boot

Hello,

I have a device I am wanting to hard-wire in my boot, it has a 15 amp fuse in it and I don't know much about power etc. It needs to only turn on when the keys in like the ciggy lighter accessory slot.

I tried looking up some pinouts for the boot and electrics for my 2003 RX8 Type S but I dont really understand them. Can anyone tell me if there is an existing power cable I can attached this device onto that will support 15 amps and only turn on when the keys in?

Thanks
Chris

You have Bose audio system or no?

There's certainly no ignition source that I'd recommend 15 amps of draw on.

Yup I have the Bose one with the amp in the boot.

So my best bet is to run a cable from the lighter accessory in the arm rest compartment?

The reason I asked about the Bose is because there's an ignition wire on the Bose amp. However I would certainly not recommend tapping on something with any significant current draw. But you could use it to trigger a relay and use a constant power source instead. Not that I know of one capable of an extra 15A off-hand, but just gives you more options. lol

The cig lighter is probably your best chance short of tapping into the main ignition on the key cylinder or running a constant from the battery and using a relay. It's a 20A circuit if I remember right. So if you plug something into it with any significant draw on top of whatever you're tapping in the trunk, you might pop the fuse (A cell charger is only like 2A max BTW). But no worries really. You know why it happened, replace the fuse with another 20A and try to prevent it happening again (DO NOT increase fuse size).

Oh and if you decide to use the relay trick. Pink/black on the Bose amp is ignition. It would go to pin 85, ground on 86, your device on pin 30, and constant on pin 87. Pin 87a will go unused.
