Terrible problem...need advice

I am literally going insane from this issue I have had for the past 6 months... my rx8 smells HORRIBLE. There are 2 causes I can think of for the odor; sweat and someone that left eggs in my car that then became rotten when I didn't know. The eggs were immediately cleaned up and scrubbed out upon discovery. The seats being made of cloth amplifies this issue. Now the question is what can possibly be done about this horrid stench?
I have tried several things already, at first I thought it was a simple problem, I bought some upholstery cleaner foamed it up and scrubbed down hard. This effectively did absolutely nothing. I then dealt with the smell for a while but it became worse and worse, the sun beating down on it multiplies the effect of the odor. I then had it completely shampooed all the seats and inside everything for 100$ and I replaced my cabin air filter in case it was in the A/C. This allowed it to smell ok for a few hours... and then it crept back in.
I then got fed up with this problem and went and straight up rented an ozone generator.... I thought for damn sure this would work, nope, it smelled fine for 1 day and it was back. I have no idea what I can do at this point and my car is basically rendered a 1 door because no one will ride in it, it's that bad. So in conclusion now my car having gone through all those treatments doesn't smell anywhere NEAR as bad as before but it still constantly smells like a wet dog and it pisses me off to no end.
Could someone suggest anything to me? I'm basically desperate at this point...

I'm assuming you've already taken out the seats (front and back) and cleaned under there as well?
Next step would be removing the carpet and seeing if it soaked in the padding underneath.

I haven't taken the seats out yet... got that planned for this weekend. Think I'm going to take them out and wash them til I can't wash them anymore. I also think I'm going to replace the carpeting. I will check the padding underneath the carpet to see if that's the source... good idea.

Step one: Stop letting R. Kelly use your car in his videos
Step two: Stop letting OJ use your car for his murders
:p

My first car, a dodge neon, had the same problem. I took the seats out and went to a car wash and powerwashed them, then went to the vacuum cleaner at the car wash (as theyre wet vacs as well). Left them outside for 1 day to dry, switching out towels.

For the carpets, i rented a RugDoctor at westlake Ace Hardware for the day, and the shampooer attachment.

Costs: $2.25 at the car wash-.75 for powerwashing/soap. 1.50 for the vacuum.
$25 for the RugDoctor (i also cleaned all the carpets in my house )

BTW, Ozone is toxic http://www.epa.gov/iaq/pubs/ozonegen.html

BTW, my car was in a flood, so it had smell in every bit of it except the ceiling. The powerwasher gets it cleaner than it was new

Thanks for the replies by the way fellas. Imop this is my plan for this weekend exactly what you've described, going to powerwash the hell out of the seats and replace the carpets. To the guy that asked about the eggs, they were on the floor in the back on the passenger side. Yes, I realize ozone is toxic lol I was nowhere near the car while the generator was running and I let it air out for a long time before I got back in. Don't know anything about the Seinfeld episode all I know is this issue is not at all funny anymore and it has just kept me pissed off for some time.

It sounds like the stench has worked it's way deep into the foam of the seats and the carpeting. Imop's method hopefully will work. If it does, it is a hell of a lot cheaper than the ultimatum.

Exactly man the price on reupholstering the seats is not something I'm looking forward to, so I'm praying Imop's solution works brilliantly. Thanks Zumn and everyone else that posted.

If it did come down to getting new seats, I suggest checking a junk yard versus the dealer or after market. Should be cheaper, that is if you can find the seats. I hope imop's idea works out for you though dude.
