I have an 04 TiGrey, and I wanted to get the switchblade key for the 05's for it. My car is at the shop right now (Suburban Mazda in Troy, Michigan), and I was asking them about it (over the phone), and they said that it was impossible to do, because they're cut differently or something. Anyhow, I thought that this was possible, and that a lot of people here have done it....so my questions are twofold:

1) Did I misunderstand something and it's impossible to use the 05 switchblade key on an 04 car?

and

2) If it is possible, can anyone point out any kind of documentation that I could show to these guys?

It is possible to do. You must buy the new key and new key fob (two separate pieces). Some dealerships will sell it to you but you can buy from one of our vendors. There is a DIY on coding and reprogramming your own key. Remember that all of your keys must be reprogrammed together in order for them all to work.

 

Keep in mind that it was Suburban Mazda telling you... they don't know much.
