Sunglass Holder spring mechanism

Hello,
I've searched the forums and outside the forums to find anybody having the same issue as me. The spring loaded mechanism for the sunglass holder in my RX8 (2004) has failed. The sunglass holder will stay in the open position (hanging in front of my mirror).
It used to get stuck once in a while in the close position, but now it has completely broken and won't go back to the closed position.
I took apart the map light / sunglass holder using the instructions elsewhere in the forums. Attached are the pics of what I'm seeing as the cause for the breakage. There is a little metal hook that seems to have fallen out of the latching mechanism. Has anyone seen where to put this, or happen to have pictures of their own latch that could guide me to where this should go ?

The dealer wanted $250 for a whole new map light assembly. I did find a used part online for about $60, but they were out of stock. Worst comes to worst, I'll just tape it in the closed position.

Any help/guidance is appreciated, thanks!

Jonathan

another option is to check junk yards or pick-a-part places.

Help me out here a little...so where is the DIY instructions for this... oh wait there is none!

"Only DIY threads with instructions belong in this forum."

How about you try the "Tech Garage" or "Troubleshooting"?

or maybe you should learn to read instructions and follow directions first!

but since you don't know how to follow directions, I doubt you can put the parts back together imo

I was about to post a message apologizing and opening a new thread in the correct forum, but then you come along and make me realize I don't need to be polite here.

I wonder how much more people would participate in this site if they weren't afraid of every post getting flamed. Glad to see your first and only post isn't to help someone.

Now, now, you don't have to sink to the lowest common denominator.

Sorry, I didn't realize you had 19 posts of contribution... Oh wait, they were all just questions that you needed help with! I'd think after asking questions that many times, you'd at least learn to ask in the right section. And "oh I was going to apologize but I am not now because of you"? What are you, a 5 year old? Man up and stop making excuses, or are you going to tell on mommy now? I wonder how much more people would participate in this site if they were all just asking questions, in the wrong sections too. Glad to see your 19 posts aren't to help anyone but yourself.

I'll ignore the two kids who must have a lot of time on their hands.

Thanks for those that had meaningful replies, I will be posting my question in the correct forum.

JPolski there is no need for "piling on" especially as your first post. find something constructive to post about or dont.

Dude I had the same problem a couple years back but thankfully my brother in-law was a mechanic. He was able to give me an exploded view of the overhead compartment assembly from a service manual.

The part that broke for me ended up costing about 60 cents but the shipping & handeling almost didn't make it worth it.

I will look through my email tonight for the diagram.

akersjp I was not able to find what I was looking for in my email. I may have received it before I started using hotmail. I will have to go through Outlook at home. Man I feel old. Does anyone even use POP3 clients anymore

I did find a diagram for the EVAP Control System. Do you have any need for that?
