Well, the 2620 has the U.S. and parts of Canada preloaded, and it has a remote control, which is very useful.

The 2610 and 2620 both come with the remote control. There is nothing I need more than a remote when driving (Yes I know it is for the passenger).

I'm using a laptop with an addon GPS receiver. The receiver is made by pharos, it came with a 6' USB cable, so I put some velcro on the back of my passenger seat and I mount it there. I travel for business purposes a couple times a month, so having the extra portability is a definate plus. I'm using delorme (sp?) 2004 and I must say its a great piece of software. Voice prompts, auto reroute, the whole deal. The GPS unit was $140 after a rebate and it came with streets and trips, which is a decent piece of software itself. Add to that the plusses of having a laptop and its a great solution in my book. Now all I'm wishing for is an aux in jack so I can hook up my laptop sound to the car stereo!

Havs,

The laptop GPS work well but it is just a pain in the butt to always be carrying the laptop around. You will need a dc adaptor for your car too for longer trips. If you have a pasenger in the car there is no real room unless they are holding it.

I just never considered that a everyday gps solution.

A mobile unit is always going to look like an addon but again, I have never seen the RX-8 GPS.

Really with the mount, it looks pretty good. Once I get the mount (and get rid of the sandbag), I will take a picture and post it on the board.

Yes, just keep it away from the passengerside airbag, you wouldn't want a RPGPS (rocket propelled GPS) in your car during an accident.

Hehe

I saw the post above this in the thread, something about MPG saga, etc etc...

Then I saw this thread title and thought:

"Yep, RX8 does in fact consume at a rate measured in GPS...Gallons Per Second"

Sigh. It's a slow day.
