Successful nav dvd backup
Yay happy happy joy joy I was able to create a backup of the Navtech dvd using a dual layer dvd (which are way crazy expensive but lots cheaper than a replacement navtech dvd)
Application used was cdclone created an image and then used the same application to burn the image.
I'm working on editing the image and burning it onto a cheaper cd+r or cd-r disk.
The dvd system had no problem reading the dual layer disk.

there is but there isn't :p
the disc was produced but you can't get it since mazda wont release it...go figure!
look at the sticky at the top of this section of threads (audio/video/electronics) and you can join the perpetual mazda call time )

wow, thats great news. I have pulled my nav dvd and put it in my computer also.. havent tried backing it up...
I noticed its SDAL format.... I did alot of searching looking for a program or at least a viewer that can handle .SDL files. I havent found much... The only thing that I found was a SDAL FAQ from navtec..
I doubt anyone has been able to do this but its worth a shot at asking, has anyone been able to dump the OS off the nav onto a computer? Or has anyone been able to emulate the software to run SDAL format dvd's?

I am looking at taking the Navtech DVD and transfering it a USB keydrive.
Then I can use the DVD for other things.
Not to mention if you hit a bump the keydrive will not skip or scratch.
Once I get this complete I will post a link for people to read on how to do it.

Pretty obvious in the pirating world. If you get a good image and up it to a newsgroup...this is why. Also if you original dvd gets scratched up you will have a backup.
