NY Subwoofer enclosures

Hello I was wondering if anyone knows where I can buy a dual 10" or dual 12" fiberglass subwoofer enclosure for the trunk on my 05. All I've found online is the cheap lookin plain carpet covered boxes I'm lookin for something that looks custom and maybe has a spot for the amp in the middle of the box.

There's no drop in fiberglass offering as you described. VERY few vehicles on the road have someone manufacturing such a piece. There's simply not enough demand to warrant production. Many man hours per box. Many up front R&D hours. High costs with an equally high finished price tag. Then can you imagine shipping something like that!??

You need to find a local shop that will do quality work for you. I can only ballpark $600-$800 for the box alone.

agreed with Firebirdude, you're looking for something that looks custom because it would be custom.
get on yelp, find some local audio shops, chat them up in person to see what they would charge.

Thanks for the replies I guess my next question would be if anyone knows a good audio shop because where I live there are two audio shops within a 30 mile radius and one shop the guy is outrageous on prices I mean he's sellin headunits at an average 30% over cost and charging 180-350 for simple installs so custom work is out of the question and the other shop does terrible work so if there is anyone from upstate ny that knows a good shop please let me know thank you

12-12-2010 -- I only have 3 driver side 10" enclosures left for the RX8. We are going out of business and the boxes are going quick. You can view specs and purchase at 4080enclosures. Com. Or you can call my cell to discuss 713-828-_2_9.

Thanks ainslie

That was the response that I received when inquiring about the 4080 subwoofer boxes back in December.

Lunchbox, I see you're building a passenger side box that's, essentially, the same as the 4080 box. Did you/Do you plan on buying the driver's side box as well? If not, why build a passenger side box when the driver's box was available?

Just curious.

I only wanted a single 10" subwoofer as not to take up much space in the trunk.

When I contacted 4080 I was looking for a passenger side box, but they had sold out. The logic in using the passengerside box, as opposed to the driverside, is that it would help offset the drivers weight, and help keep the car more evenly balanced. An enclosure on the driverside would have the opposite effect.

lol I knew you would say that.

You race AutoX? And you'd keep the sub installed while racing?

Nope. Gotta bust me out huh?

The rx8 really isn't even my car, it's my old ladies, and it's a daily driver.

I have a 91 Rx7 that is my toy. As you can see I do not worry about weight distribution as I have an 18" JL sitting in a 3/4" MDF enclosure in my hatch. It is still a work in progress and the wheels on it are awful, I have some new one's just saving up to get some rubber for them.

In case you were wondering........... yes it is faster even with the overkill stereo.

We also have an 88 vert that we are slowly getting into shape for our daughter (she's just 8 so we have several years for that one).

haha sorry man. Didn't mean to be a dick. I just know that you've put A TON of work into making that box.

Sweet rx7. I'd love to hear that 18!

As a side note, I wonder if Mazda calculated driver weight into their design of weight distribution? I would think so, but you never know.

It's okay, were in FL are you?

We're planning on moving down there in June, back to Melbourne where I grew up. If you're near there you can hear it, it's rather obnoxious. Eventually I'm going to change the layout in there, but that'll be down the line. Just one more iron in the fire.

Sorry for thread jacking.

OP: If my subwoofer enclosure works out, let me know exactly what you are wanting in your car, what sort of budget you have in mind, and we might be able to work something out.

That's hilarious. Really small world.

I went to University Park, and then Meadowlane elementary schools. That was back in the late 80's.

They did in the RX7, but for a Japanese driver on the right side of the car. I have no idea if they did so on the RX8. TeamRX8 has had his car corner weighted and that would be the only way to know.
