"Stock" Sirius tuner

"Stock" Sirius tuner
Anyone know if the dealers standardize on a specific Sirius tuner for our 8s? I'm curious to know what brand is back there. If it's a Pioneer, I'm wondering if it's compatible with the Pioneer AVIC units.
I suppose I could dig in the trunk to find out, but figured I'd see if the community knows before I do it.

Looking for some help explaining what I will find before I start tearing things apart- btw- I have a 2010 GT.
I will be replacing my HU with an AVIC once I get the harnesses and find the time. I don't know what to expect to find in the way of Sirius Sat hookup and Navigation. I don't expect to use Sirius so if I need to purchase a tuner I won't go there, but if a $10 cable gives me the ability to subscribe later then I will do that. It sounds like the current tuner has a connector that isn't compatable with the AVIC??? Is there a way around that???
Also, I don't have navigation in the 8 now, but expect that there is a feed coming out of the sat antenna that I could use to hookup to the AVIC rather than use the antenna that came with the AVIC. Maybe trying to use the current sat antenna would be more work that it is worth??? I guess my question is what is between the sat antenna and head unit (tuner), where (at radio, in trunk, etc) and what type of connection?????

First, you realize you're posting in the Series I section? Your 2010 will require different (and cheaper) installation parts than our older 8's. Here's your kit. Here's the harness.
I think I've only seen one headunit in my life that had a satellite tuner built in. Certainly no AVIC units. It's always going to be an add on purchase. About $90-100 in parts last time I checked.
The AVIC unit will come with a GPS antenna. That's what you'll need to use. You can mount it inside on the dash or underneath the dash if you'd like. If you don't like them on the outside of your car. I've had my Sirius and GPS antennas right next to the center channel speaker (under the dash) for several years now without one issue.
How much you looking to spend? You plan on installing all this yourself?

Nothing stock will work with anything aftermarket. Not the stock sat tuner. Not the stock GPS antenna. Nothing.

Thanks for the info. I was trying to determine what connections where present without tearing everything apart. With 4 kids (10 - 15) I don't have a lot of spare time and I am trying to get all the harnesses I need so when I get started I won't have everything torn apart learning. Hopefully I will have everything and can make this a nice Father's Day project.
I like the idea of putting the gps under the dash, thanks.
The AVIC is overkill for what I wanted, I was looking for something that would interface with my iPod and have a nice screen. I found the x920bt on clearance at BB at $399 and thought it was a great deal. Not only do I feel it looks nice, but is easy to use= safer driving. If I could have the ability to subscribe to Sirius for another $15 in the form of a connector I would go there, $100+ no thanks. I wasn't planning on subscribing but wanted the ability to do so without taking everything apart again.
I probably have some dumb question, but I am an engineer (although chemical) and work at Delphi so I don't expect to find anything I can't answer, just looking for the answers first.

$399 for the 920 is a steal. Open box/Display item I would guess? Just make sure it has all the parts with it. (Black power harness, White video harness, GPS antenna, microphone, IP-BUS to USB cable, USB to iPod cable) If it's missing even one thing, make them knock off 40-50 bucks or pass on the deal. Most of those parts are hard to find by themselves and can be pricey (example). Also I can't remember, but the X920BT might have a gloss black trim ring that surround the faceplate too.... maybe not... can't remember.
Just make sure the antenna's view of the sky is not blocked by metal. Plastic and glass have given me no problems. If you just run it up and set it next to the center speaker (very easy), you should be fine.
If iPod and touchscreen is all you want, Pioneer makes an AVHP2300DVD. Or the 3300 will give you hands-free bluetooth built in and a memory car slot (very handy. use instead of ipod).

Actually it was not an open box. I saw it on clearance for 599 at my local store but didn't buy it. I was near another so I stopped in and was going to ask if they had an open box, but they had it down to $399 there. They had 7 left and I grabbed one from their case.
It has everything you mentioned but the iPod to USB connector. The manual doesn't say it should either, but does list all the other parts.
Why do I need the iPod to USB that also has an Aux Jack? Can't I just use the regular iPod to USB cable that I use to sync with?? The sales guy did tell me I would need one, I didn't buy it though since I figured I would try it with mine first. They had it for ~$13 so not much more.
I'll check out the units you mentioned, thanks for the links, but again at this price the other features may be worth it. I am debating putting a backup camera in just for fun, not that I would need it the car is small enough. Any suggestions?

Wow really!?! At $399... you should have bought them all and sold them on eBay. They're all over 600.
You can use any brand USB to iPod cable. Even the Apple one that comes with the iPod. Don't use the Aux jack. Low fidelity, doesn't keep the iPod charged and doesn't xfer any of the data to the screen.
Rear view cameras depend on what style you want. Some are just tiny square standalone cameras. Some surround the whole license plate. Pioneer even makes one.
Good luck with the install. Post pics.
