Speakers in and out...then dead.

I have searched the forums for a few days now and failed to find an answer...

I have an '04 rx8 with the bose system and my speakers now produce no sound.
I have had my 8 for almost 4 years now and the sound was always great. My head unit also works fine. This last year the sound started going in and out. It all started with the left door panel speaker which would work and not work. Over time other speakers began to zone in and out, eventually all speakers died out. I have also been hearing a loud noise (rock hitting windshield) in the first ten minutes of starting my car, both before and after all my speakers were dead. I dont know what the problem could be, speakers, fuses, amp, headunit? I had a mechanic look at it and he found nothing, i don't want to send it back to bose. I want to replace my stereo but dont know where to start. Right now my headunit is sitting on my counter with the face and cd player seperated. I attempted to check the fuses and wiring. Anyone experience something like this? What could the problem be?

My speakers are barely working and I also have an 04 with the Bose speakers. When I turn up the volume it sounds muffled and distorted I also wonder if the amp fuse is blown but I don't know where the fuse is to check it.

I picked up an RX-8 today with the Bose sound system. No sound for me either. I can't find info on this anywhere.

The best info I could find was at

If you're looking to just replace the stock set up then it would be the metra kit + aftermarket head unit of your choice.

Second link did it. Checked fuse 11 in dash fuse box (greenish yellow). Seemed fine, but I swapped it with the spare anyways. Boom! Audio has returned! Thanks!
