Speaker replacement question.

Sorry if someone already asked this question, I just couldnt find any info on the subject.

I have a non-bose factory stereo set up. If I replace the factory speakers front and rear with aftermarket, without adding an amp, will I still get better sound or am I wasting money? If it will sound better, does anyone have suggestions on which brand and typer of speakers to buy that would sound optimal with the factory speakers?

I think this has been asked and answered about 1500 times, but in a nutshell...do it. Doing nothing but replacing the factory junk speakers with decent (they don't even have to be great) speakers will make a HUGE difference. As for brand...I picked Infinity Reference because they sound pretty good and are very inexpensive if you look around (hint: Ebay is your friend). Don't just do fronts or rears though...do 'em all. Otherwise the leftover stock crap will muddy up your improvements.

Has definitely been asked and answered before. I will add one thing regarding my base stereo....
After replacing my rear 6X9's and front 6X8's and the tweeter's, I still found the bass somewhat lacking.

I have purchased an Infinity Basslink which I will install if it ever gets warmer here in the Northeast. (The Basslink takes speaker level inputs so it's just a matter of splicing into the speaker leads and feeding the Basslink for it to work.)

With those components working with the HU, I think I should get very nice audio.

Good luck!

You've pretty much done exactly what I've done...and the Basslink fills out the bottom end nicely. In fact, I've found that I have to crank the Basslink gain way down to match with the stock HU output...so I bought a 4-channel amp to use with the main speakers...but I haven't got it in yet.

Thanks for the info on the speakers. Maybe I am not searching correctly? I typed in aftermarket speakers, but only get info from the bose speakers. But thanks again, will be looking forward to changing these out soon.

It's definitely worth it to replace the front and rear speakers. I have the base system too, and I just replaced the speakers this weekend, with Infinity Reference 6800cs components in the front and Polk db690s in the back. It's like night and day. For less than $250, it was definitely worth it, plus the install wasn't completely horrible.

Yes, go with Infinity, JL or Boston A. Those three are in the top 5 for sound in My Eyes.

I did kenwood 901's in the back and wow what a difference. These speakers are very efficient too. Very easy -- given the guides we have here.
