sound system

OK, so I'm finally moving on my way to Drug-dealer sound:

This is what I'm going with so far:
Audio control LC6 pre-amp
Phoenix Gold Octane-R - R9.0:5 - 5CH Amplifier 125W x 4 and 400W x 1 at 2ohms
(has a built-in crossover)

A few questions:
I've read about the general speakers, so I won't ask about those - most likely, infinity

As far as a sub goes, I have a JL 8w1-4 lying around. It's brand new. Are they any good?

Saw 4080's posts for the 10 in sub, though, and that looks like the way I'd rather go. Nice clean setup.
Any recommendations for 10's in his setup?
Thanks!

You can't go wrong with JL Audio products. I think the JL 10W3v6 will fit in 4080's custom box. Don't know anything about JL's 8W1 series, they don't make them anymore. I am running four 8W3v2's. Well, really I am running two, because one of the four came busted from the factory, so I've never actually heard it with all four firing. But, with two, it sounds just fine, and I think one 10W3 is approximately the same as two 8W3s.

Drug dealer sound????? The thumping bass as the car rolls up... like drug dealer cars.

It's just not that funny when I have to explain it.

Drug dealers dont bump their music when they drive & make deals.I know for a fact! Been there, done that a couple years a go until the laws go a lot sticter on x(you guys probably know what that is).Drug dealers like to keep a low profile, they do not want any attension!

I believe the Octane line (lowest line PG offers but it's still a good amp) from PG does not quote their power rating in Rms rather in peak music handling so be careful when matching speakers power rating with the amp.

thanks for the clarification tru681.

I'll keep that in mind when I make the career change.

I want to see that POLK 8 inch install. I just don't think that I need a 10.

Thanks

cool. Let me know.

Are you putting it in the back of the trunk or in the pass-through?

in the back of the trunk--I am leary of the pass through setup--while they look good, I'm not really convinced of its sound quality due to the larger volume in the vehicle vs. the sealed nature of the trunk. The accoustics seem like they would change with the windows open and what not. My other concern about the pass through is vandalism, the subs there are so visible it would be an enticement to thieves. I'm mounting the 8 in the driverside corner up against the seatback aimed at an angle towards the passenger side tail light corner; the amp will be mounted in the spare tire well. In the event that I want to add another 8 I can mount it opposite of this one aiming toward the opposite tail light.

custom box or pre-fab? - fiberglass or wood?

what did you replace the other speakers in the car with?

I'm looking at a whole bunch of different options for the speakers but can't decide which ones will work nicely. I want good, but not crazy expensive

The box will be a sealed custom unit of wood. I replaced the fronts with 6.5" Infinity Kappa series components and Infinity Reference Series 6x9s in the back. The Infinity speakers off of the factory headunit are a 100% imporvement over the stock speakers.
