Something really annoying me with the navigation system during evening drives...
I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before, but when you turn on the headlights and have the display toggle (by the DSC button) set all the way up (so that the speedometer area turns white) it causes the navigation screen to remain bright white just like it is in day mode. This is annoying as hell when you're driving at night. The only way I've been able to get around this is by either keeping the display toggle down (so that the speedometer area is red) or by holding the VOICE button and switching the display to "Night Mode" after setting display toggle all the way up. But as soon as I roll the display toggle back down to red and then back to white, it resets the nav monitor back to Day Mode and the screen goes back to bright white.
How come there's no way to keep it dark when you turn the display toggle all the way up? I don't understand the point in having the display toggle affect the navigation screen's brightness. It goes from black map (which is what I have it set to for night mode) to spit in your friggin face white once you flip the toggle up to max.
I often switch my cluster's display between the two display colors at night, white and red, while I drive. Red for when I need easy going light on my eyes and I'm driving in an area where I don't really need to watch my RPMs/MPH like cruising on the highway. And I use white if I'm feeling tired and need to keep myself awake or when I have to watch my speed closely. Not that the two cluster colors make a significant difference for me..just an option I like to use.
But now with the navigation system screaming the damn bright white light into my eyes...it's really pissing me off and I've been keeping the cluster display on red all the time because of it.
Is there anything I can do about this so that prevents the screen from resetting into "day mode" when I move the display toggle all the way to the white zone? Anything I can disconnect so that the display toggle doesn't affect the nav screen's setting? Or is this just one of those inconveniences you have to live with?

the simple answer, is that you arent suppose to use the white cluster background when you are driving at night..it ruins your nightvision. You can go into the NAV setup and set the background color to another color instead of white, otherwise you need to close your NAV screen. The point, at least what I think, is that you can turn the dash to the day mode colors when your headlights are on so you can see it when you have your headlights on during the day (like when its raining). Personally, I like that the adjusting the cluster also adjusts the NAV display. Because when my headlights are on during the day (usually cuz of the weather), I like that my NAV and my cluster gauge can stilll be in daytime mode so I can see the display clearly. I never drive at night in the other colors..it makes it so hard to see...especially on dark, lightless roads...

I disagree. The white cluster background is subtle enough for me where it won't interfere with my vision while driving at night.
And think about all the owners out there that don't even know there is a way to adjust the cluster background to red ...and have it on white all the time. In fact a lot of the salesmen don't even know that you can change the background.
By the way the NAV setup doesn't have white as a setting. It has green, beige, and black.

If you have the PIE adaptor installed...select it as the audio source and then hit the volume **** to turn off the head unit. This opens some secret menu in japanese. Hit Menu and it opens an option to adjust the brightness and constrast (in english)..I found this the other day...
