Question Shift Console lights on Automatic?

Please help me out here. I purchased a 2004 8 automatic for my wife just over a year ago. I rarely drive it and never at night. Had to move it one evening and while shifting noticed that there were no indicator lights on the shift console to tell you what position (D, N, R, etc.) you were in, only visible on the dash. Every other automatic we've owned lit up. I asked her if there normally were lights there, thinking maybe it was disconnected when it was pulled for a stereo change and she had no idea. So, lights or no lights? Thanks

Not true.
The M,P,R,N,D light up on mine.
Your bulb (194?) is probably burned out.

I get all light up when I switch on the headlamps and all unlit when I turn it off.
I didn't know it's supposed to be lit only when u shift into it.
The only indication I get is on the dash, not on the shifter.
Wiring disconnected probably?

Angry Really confused now

Really confused now OK - I spoke with two service managers at two different dealerships in Seattle and they both said the console does NOT light up. So what gives. Don't they know. Or do the posters here just think they light up or maybe it was changed after 2004? Any other 2004 automatics at there want to check out their consoles and let me know? thanks.

Easy enough to find out your self in about 5 -10 minutes.
Just disassemble your console and look.
Here's a DIY with instructions.
