Dags, thanks for the advice. I will mess with it later today. I really hope that is my issue. I'm going to get my test light out to make sure there is power at the wiring harness too. I'll update if the faceplate was in fact the issue. Did you actually remove the faceplate from the unit completely? of just push it in? Because I have been pushing on that damn thing all week while I'm driving around!

Installers code is to never use test lights. The slight increased load they place on the circuit has been known to set off airbags in some vehicles. No joke. Never seen it in person, but its always been a rule of thumb in my shop. Google it and see for yourself. Use a multimeter.

That's crazy. I can't believe a test light could do that, but I can't afford to find out the hard way. Really don't feel like spending money on a multimeter, but I'm sure it will be handy to have around... I didn't get a chance to take my radio out, but the face plate feels like it's not pushed in around the center of it.

Was on my phone when I made that post. At my PC now, so here's a link about it straight from the electronics bible. Sears usually has Craftsman multimeters for like $25-$30. They're good enough for most things you'll probably do.

Wow, I'm glad I didn't get around to messing with the unit now. That's all I would need is for that to happen. Thanks for the tip, looks like I'll be getting a multimeter. I'm thinking my faceplate isn't connected properly.

Im having the same damm problem. I had to jump start the car. The i drove it around few days later jump started it again. Finally just got a new battery. The last time i jump started it the Radio and HU display for the temp and time are now no longer working. I took it to a stereo shop they pulled the stereo out tested all the connections and the harness is outting out power. They said they believe the Radio is shot.

Same problem...

I'm having an identical problem to Stroudism - I didn't unplug my battery and plugged something into the tape deck part of my radio. Now the air-con works, but the radio is dead, so is the display.

Stroudism, did you ever fix yours??

Does anyone have any advise other than getting a new stereo?

Perhaps a fuse has gone somewhere deep in the stereo itself??

Josh, I did fix it... I got a Pioneer in Dash touch screen DVD Player which is way more bad *** than the factory radio. I also got the steering wheel control adapter. It's so much better!

But seriously, I could not figure out why the stock radio stopped working. Chalk it up to a loss and lesson learned. Paid about $600 total to have the Metra dash kit, DVD player, and shop install.

Good luck.

Radio problems

Here it is, my sons 2004 RX 8 radio was not working. I replaced fuses and relays, this was wrong. I pulled the audio fuse and reinstalled it and the radio started working. We turned the car off and the radio stopped working. We removed the fuse again and reinstalled it and the radio went back on. I installed a switch to power on and off the radio when he turns the car off. It now works. I install a inline switch with the 15 amp fuse, in place at the fuse socket I installed wires to my switch. I installed the switch behind the fuse cover. It's easy to access. When he turns the car off he flips the switch off. When he turns the car on he then flips the switch on. It is a simple fix to a headache know one on this site had the answer too. Hope this helps you.

I'm not sure, but what if you discontented the power? That might reset the system.
