The stanchions surrounding this car probably kept people from seeing it, but the molded console monitor and keyboard are intriguing...

Couple of things...
Looks great...a lot like my car, except I have more screens integrated, including the original NAV screen and I have a trackpad integrated into the center counsel. Also, my keyboard hides under the passenger seat...a few things they should have considered.

I really love the seats though. Makes me consider upgrading mine.

1 beef though, why, if they upgraded the seats and belts with racing harnesses, didn't they remove the original front seat belts?

great point about the factory seat belt...probably the seat are there just for the show anyhow...the factory ones, which are very nice will be put back in (maybe cause the factory ones were leather)

Because those racing harnesses aren't really street legal. Besides, it looks to me like the shoulder harnesses are mounted at the bottom of the seat itself (check me if I'm wrong), and even if you assume that they are mounted correctly (with the right hardware, to strong enough positions), that is an incorrect mounting of those seat belts. And, shoulder harnesses in a car w/o a rollbar can be a liability instead of a help in some situations.

I don't mean to come off as some kind of snob, but like everything else in the aftermarket biz, there are those who put some good thought into what they do, and those who simply slap things on. And if I were in that car, I'd be putting on the factory belts insted of those racing belts.

This may be a silly question, but where would you load a CD or DVD in this setup?

The actual CD/DVD unit has probably been relocated to the glovebox or the trunk.

As for the belts....I think the shoulder harnesses are proper. They go through the seat to be bolted down under the rear seats. This is typical.

As for loading CD/DVD....good question...glove box? trunk changer?

Just because it is typical, doesn't make it right. Check the rules for shoulder harness attachment height in racing sanctioning bodies. There is a minimum angle that the shoulder harnesses can sit. Lemme 'splain why.

Take a look at the attached sketch, which is a very basic view of the shoulder harness from the side. Take a look at the top two drawings. When the car goes through an impact, the mass of the occupants body is thrown forward. While even racing belts stretch a little under such a load (remember, there are many variables, but literally thousands of pounds of stress can be generated by even a 30 mph accident), it is very little. Take a short piece of string, and put on a table in a similar upside down "V" shape. While holding the ends in place, simulate a body leaning forward by pushing that part of the string out, and as the "front" of the string pulls forward, the top of the striing is pulled down. The same thing happens to a shoulder harness. As the body pulls forward, the belt is pulled down.

The lower left drawing is arranged similar to shoulder harnesses mounted to the seat bottom, with the angle of the belt around 90 degrees. As a body is thrown forward, that shoulder harness pulls straight down (with the same force as the body is moving forward, which can be immense), and your body will give before the belt. Collar bones have been snapped, spines have been crushed or broken). There have also been extreme cases where some people have had minor back and shoulder injuries simply from hard braking forces and improperly mounted belts. This is not theory, this has happened. The lower right drawing is arranged similar to a recommended angle of 45 degrees or less (the resulting angle is important, not the height). With this angle, the direction of the force is no longer directly down, it is more towards the rear and back. With the same force, much less damage will occur. Even less damage will occur with a 30 degree mounting angle. Try this with the string experiment, and you will see that the distance the string moves down will be very different between the different mounting angles.

That is why that mounting location for the shoulder harnesses is not proper.

Agh.. seeing this just makes me even more angry that NO ONE has come up with a solution for replacing the stock stereo (or even locating a replacement elsewhere) aside from the $500 rmagic solution.. this makes me a sad panda

OOh, I'm likin the look of this... can't wait to see it when it's finished. Now what they need to do is (a) make it touch screen integrating the audio and the carputer, and (b), make it work with the steering wheel controls.
