Running power to addons

Just wanted a little advice,

Which is the safest, and most clean way to supply power to the things we add to the 8:

1) find a hot wire somewhere under the dash and tap it (which could become messy)
2)tap into the actual fuse box using a slot that is not currently used (and if so how)
3) run a whole new line under the dash with an inline fuse straight from the battery to connect several small amp items?

Thanks for all your help!

It depends on what you are powering. For a low power item powering it through the fuse panel (not used slot) would be fine. If you are running any kind of amp, it is best to run a line (inline fuse immediately off the source) directly to the battery. I would never tap into an existing wire unless you know exatly what it is used for (i.e the cigarette lighter) and know it can handle the additional power load.

How many amps are you going to be drawing? Are you looking for a ignition wire or an always on wire?

This item is has very low draw, just two small LEDs. I was wondering how the best way was to do this item, but also for future reference, because of course I am planning to add other things

Thanks

You can run them off of the cig lighter in the center console, but that will only go on with the key. Is that what you want?

Yea, i think that would be the only time I would want them and that would be so close to the switches anyways. Thanks for the help rotaryrasp!

I am planning to do a DIY if anyone cares to see how I placed the leds in the air vents, so I will give you credit for that!

Thanks

Chris
