Alpine. I've used both. Nothing Rockford has released has impressed me since the Power HX2 line.

Alpine is your best bet especially if you want it loud. P3's do well but if you over power them they will blow quick. Type-R is clean loud sound too. Throw a M-1000 Alpine on it and call it good.

Type-R, def.

Had the subs in my z28 and the components in my old Mazda3. Very good quality stuff.

Don't spend too much (if any) money on the rear deck. "Proper" soundstage is with the music coming from the front.

My past two cars (Camaro and Mazda3) have had nice components up front (hooked up to an amp) and the stock speakers in the back (either hooked up to a stock amp or aftermarket HU). I then change the "fade" on the stereo so that almost all of it goes to the front with very little sound coming out of the rear.

After a few minutes of listening to music this way (on a properly set up system), you'll be a convert.

My Mazda3 had some 6.5" Alpine Type R components in the front powered by an Elemental Designs Nine.2 amplifier (100 watts RMS x 2). The rear speakers were powered by my HU and were set at -8 (out of -10), so very little sound came out of them...just a bit of fill. It was VERY loud and VERY nice sounding. With the small cabin of the RX8, rear speakers will probably be even less important.

I'm kind of **** when it comes to car audio and I've done a TON of research on what equipment I will get soon, so if you have any questions don't hesitate to PM me.

oh im not gonna put kappas in the back i meant the front im probably putting 6.5 kappas in, the back ill probably just put some kicker ds in, the only reason im even replacing them is the right rear is blown and the left rear rattles horribly

Quoted for truth.

Try to get something without a tweeter for the rear.

CDT, Image Dynamics.... I think Focal does/used to. Or you can swap in a 6.5". That's what I did. (Had them from my previous vehicle)

Both CDT and Image Dynamics are top notch.

When I live in California I stopped by their warehouse in Riverside to get a used IDmax I bought repaired.

This was on a weekend when they are normally closed. I met Matt there and he BUILT a new IDmax in front of me and let me have that. He also swapped out my entry level CDT components for a pair of their CX components (for free) AND we then spent around 1.5 hours spending the time to tune the audio in my car to perfection.

He went wayyyyyyyyyy above and beyond what most people would do.

That IDmax is one hell of a sub too.
