Retro-fit sat/nav

Hi all

I am planning to fit an Alpine sat/nav system in my new RX8, complete with touchscreen.
My local installer is quoting silly prices to fit it - and I am an electrician!... so I will do it myself.
The only unknown is the connection point for the speed signal pulse.
Anyone have any ideas?
Apparently you an connect to it behind the speedometer on some cars, and I just wondered if anyone has any idea of the cable colour/position.

I am also planning to make the screen motorised and lift out the dash like the factory fit system. I will post pics when complete.

Thanks in advance

Steve

Please take pictures as you go along, what are your plans as to placing this apline unit... Will you be replacing the current head unit? will you be connecting this to the stereo? a/c etc?

The Alpine nav unit will probably fit somewhere under the centre console, or failing that - in the back.
The touchscreen is going to go in a flip up style housing on the top of the dash where the factory fit one goes.
I have a Kenwood MP3 keg, with the remote digital controller to control it.
The controller unit is going below the screen in the flip up housing.
I have made the housing out of aluminium, and built a servo drive to lift and close it.
When my car arrives on the 1st of March, I will finish the unit by making a lid for the lift up panel. This will be a small fibreglass moulding covered with factory material. I insist on a perfect look - so time is getting spent on this!
When finished, the screen will raise up, with the MP3 controller under it. This works on the ignition. There are also 3 small buttons on the front : Manual up, manual down and ignition open on/off.
The sound from the MP3 player is going through one of OverLOADs aux-in modules (when he gets to me in his waiting list!). Just for temp now it will go through an RF converter.
The Alpine sat/nav has its own speaker in the screen, however I may connect that through the Maz/PC-ALP connector and have the sat/nav speech available through the mode button on the steering wheel.
Also the touchscreen has 2x spare AV inputs, so I may fit a DVD player and a TV module at a later date. Then the sound for those will be available through the Bose speakers.
I will take pics and post as I go.
