Replacing the steering wheel?

I'm curious has anybody replaced the stock steering wheel in their 8 with an aftermarket removable wheel like a Momo/Sparco? I'm wondering about advantages/disadvantages of doing so and how hard it is to swap a new wheel in. I know I would be giving up the radio controls and the airbag.

yes i have recently
you have to buy a steering wheel puller otherwise you cant get it off
you might lose traction control and airbag light will go off
also make sure u disconnect your battery and discharge all electricity in car unless u like airbags exploding in your face and you will need extending quick release and hub from NRG for 200 dollars because with the hub alone the steering wheel is too close to blinkers and windshield wipers

Use this as reference

VS8, did you find it worthwhile to swap to an aftermarket wheel? What advantages and benefits has it had? I'm not 100% sold on swapping it, but I'm definitely curious.

I know you're a grown man and you can take responsibility for anything that happens to you, but I *really* wouldn't go without an airbag if I were you :P

Take the word of someone who put his cavalier into a tree at 60 MPH and walked away with nary a scratch because the airbag kept his face from slamming into the steering wheel :P

the added bonus of losing airbags means your daily commute will be more exciting!

no pain, no gain.

Yeah, thats my biggest concern actually. I was looking at the motion of my body from where I sit and realized that my head would swing down -exactly- on the center of an aftermarket steering wheel. The nice metal center would probably be perfect for smashing my face in. Probably best to just keep the face saving wheel then... best of all, its cheap/free.

Federal law. If it comes equpped with an air from the factory it has to be insatalled if it on the road.

Hence you would be illegal and subject to being towed.

You are also subject to being impaled by the steering column in the event of an accident.

Thats the part that really made up my mind. My head would literally swing right down on that thing.
