Really...I'm Sirius

Just had my Sirius Sat radio installed today. I think it turned out quite well. Parts, labor, etc...$277.13.

You can't be Sirius. Check out the XM in the ashtray, next to the purple headed warrior A Spec shift ****

I can't "be" Sirius? Or "beat" Sirius?

Lol..

I originally thought about putting it in the ashtray, but I didn't want to hardwire my radar detector. It does look sharp though.

GotZoom,
Thanks for the idea! I was looking for some place to install my Starmate Replay....perfect!! Was it hard to snake all the wires up there?

Thanks,

They said it was no problem at all. I have a place that does all my "car work" - from the exhaust, etc..to the Sirius. Very easy to run all the wires. They ran the antenna back to the trunk. I'll take a picture of the antenna placement if you would like. It is at the top of the trunk - middle - closest to the back window.

There was another place who wanted to put the antenna on the inside - on the dash to the right side of the front of the car.

Bad idea.

i have my sirius mounted in the same location, but i had to drill a hole to get the wires to it. and if you are like me, your sunglasses just simply don't fit in that little space. The Oakley Zeros don't exactly fit. It is a great idea though.

OK, here is my setup...

I wear sunglasses all the time...but wear them out of the car too so they basically are never left inside the car. Also, same problem as Slipknot...they just don't fit up there.

Not at all. Screen is backlit so everything is very clear. Presets are easy to get to - all the buttons are easy actually. It also comes with a remote if you don't want to use your hand to change stations (although it is also no problem "holding" the drop down and pushing buttons on the unit).

Looks good- I've been searching on here for someone who has installed Sirius. I want to get it done but am afraid the guys at Best Buy will not know what they're doing. Should I get it done by another place?

Also, any ideas on other places the unit could go? I use both the sunglasses holder and ashtray- both would be inconvienient.

I went to Best Buy first. They wanted to install it in the ashtray and mount the antenna on the dash (front right corner). They told me they couldn't do it in the visor. I wanted to keep the ashtray (for change, charger for radar detector, etc).

I went to a local sound place (rated #1 the last three years plus a friend works there) - they told me the visor was no problem.

And the rest is history.

Note: I put my sunglasses in the drink holders and/or the console. Works perfect.

I had a Sirius FM modulator radio in my last car. Here in the Tampa Bay area, there are virtually no stations that are clear enough for use. There was always static. I love Sirius, especially Left of Center, but I'll be having Mazda install it into the factory stereo. My husband had it done in his Navigator and it is really nice to listen without static.

Thanks GotZoom for the idea.

I actually ended up at Circuit City a week ago and bought the ghetto-install Starmate Replay with the magnetic antenna. Because the console runs the full length to the trunk, I put the antenna on the trunk, ran that through the trapdoor along the console and tucked the wires into the armrest. I velcro-ed the unit between the gearshift and the seat warmer buttons.

I don't have a digicam but it works great. I like the fact that I can just take the unit off the velcro and bring it inside and listen to it or tuck it into the cup holders when I'm not in my car. I was a little skeemish about putting heavy-duty velcro on the inside of my car, but it's black and you can hardly see it. It's also a very convienent place for glancing over to see the song or change the channel real quick. I drive on the freeway a lot and this was a must.

There are actually quite a fews ways to make your sat radio function without FM broadcast or going the factory route.

Sirius now makes a direct FM antenna connection that should eliminate the problem.

From the Satellite antenna...or receiver module if you will, mounts on the outside of the vehicle.

Sorry. What i meant is the signal from the sat radio reciever to the stock headunit.

From what i can tell you have to have an audio input like the PIE amirite. Assuming you dont wanna use crappy FM Transmitters.

I noticed that some stock radios have a sirius input. Is this all or just certian headunits?

Yes only certain units have the direct connection capability. The other options are the FM unit or a new head unit. The PIE adapter is more common for iPOD connectiivity.

Sat Signal to HU

Said7, for your info:

If your HU has a SAT button, you can get Sirius thru your dealer, (expensive)
Otherwise
1. Use the FM modulator -- supposedly lousy sound quality but I'm really not sure about the quality of satellite sound anyway, which is supposed to be similar to mp3's.

2.AuxMod is a small unit hooking up to the cassette connector of your HU, it has aux. audio inputs and you select Sirius by pressing "TAPE" on the HU.

3. PIE adapter hooks up to the back of the HU where the CD changer attaches and has an aux.audio input, you select it by pressing the "CD" button to switch between CD and PIE adapter.

The last two will give you full bandwidth input to the HU and you can also use them to connect other devices like mp3 players or Bluetooth. The down side is that the HU has to be removed for #2 & 3, which can be a pain and risks damaging the unit.

I guess you can start by using the FM modulator built into the Sat radio, maybe that is all you'll want.
Good luck
