Rattles and Squeaks

The subject of small rattles and squeakes inside the car keeps coming up. How serious is this as the 'X ages? Or are they there from Day One?

Take a look at the Automobile magazine article on the RX-8 in the August(?) issue. It says after 34,000 miles, "just as solid as new".

Mine has a few rattles, but only at certain temperatures.

By the way, a friend of mine said that silicon is a good way to get rid of sqeaks and rattles. Was he talking about silicon sealant maybe? Will that leave goopy stuff behind, or does it dry in such a way that you can easily remove it if needed. Anybody know?

I use clear silicon on my civic here and there.its not the prettiest thing after it dries.
but the first thing we need to figure out is where the noise comes from it comes
I noticed it only when its hot out.

I used silicone sealant to get rid of the squeaking noise from one of my rear deck speakers. Just put a small amount around the lip of the speaker. It should dry to a rubbery substance that is easily removed if needed.

I have a rattling or tapping on my Shinka that sounds like it's coming from the very back glass. I pressed around on the dash back there and even stuffed some foam around the edges to see if that helped, but it didn't. Any ideas?

I have many squeaks and rattles... I think a lot has to do with the conditions of the roads you usually drive on. The roads here are riddled with potholes and uneven pavement, so many interior parts are eventually going to loosen up. My car keeps getting worse, and to tell you the truth I'm a bit disappointed.

I have always used Silicon Spray. Because it is liquid, it can get into almost any area, and you don't need to disassemble anything, and last forever. I have had several cars already and Silicon Spray has been working flawlessly to remove rattles and squeaks. It can be found at K-mart or Walmart.

Thanks, I'll try that. I guess that would be in the automotive section?

I have only 22k on my 04 RX8 and have the wost time with raddles. I have a very bad creaking cracking one right under the cd slot where the minidisk option would have gone. I have to push hard and slide my hand from right to left to get it to go away, until the next bump. I talked to the dealership about this and they said that it isn't covered after 12k. My next step is to take apart that center console and get rid of them all. Personally its my biggest complaint besides the gas mileage and loosing to crap like 350z's and STI's.

I have the same issues with my 05 Rx. Its one of those thing thats no big deal till I hear it. I tried poking around to solve the issue. One I know is the sunroof because it goes away when its closed. another was my horn cover. but usually more obnoxious in the winter. I guess its from the material shrinking. Not to sure how to solve that one. I am sketchy to mess with anything close to the air bag. The third one that really gets me is one that sounds like is coming from my right rear aria. I have spent a lot of man hours hunting for this one with no luck. I only get it at idle or going slow when the clutch is engaging.
I even ripped the whole interior out. Not to sound crazy. But last year I had about $2,100 worth of hail damage. I got the damage fixed from one of them PDR places. (Paint-less dent repair) and the interior had to come out to pop out some of the dents. I didn't trust the guy to take my interior apart. so I took it upon my self to it and in the process I was looking for the rattle. with the whole interior out, door panels and all. I still had the noise. so i didn't find it, but now I know its not my interior making the the noise.
I am still on the hunt and if I find it, I will let you all know.
I am going to try that silicone spray too.

BTW I was happy with the PDR.

I found it!

That one rattle thats been driving me crazy, is no more. It may be the one you are looking for too. I have had it since day one and could never find it. Its the plastic behind the back seats in the trunk. I accidentally hit it when putting the spare tire back the other day and the noise it made was all to familiar. So I stuffed some foam between the seat and the plastic and said a prayer. Its been quiet ever since.
Try it and let me know how it turns out.
