The radio reception is outstanding in our cars.

I have the base stereo and find the stations come in loud and clear even in areas where I do not get reception with other cars radios.

How is the sound in general, like playing CDs?
Base? Treble? power? 100w seems like enough to me, but how does it sound? What kind of music are you judging it by? And what are you snorting?

tnx

Except for not having real booming bass the base stereo is not bad at all. The stereo image to the front speakers is excellent and the sound can get loud enough for me to blast the tunes and head down the highway. And as mentioned the FM reception is great even going into the mountains it holds the station longer than any car radio I ever owned.

I think the sound is the base stereo is a little flat, at least it seems that way in mine.

Highs don't seem very crisp, lows more flat sounding than bass, just IMHO.

I would have to agree with you........

My car interior is apart as we speak as I upgrade all the base stereo speakers with Infinity Kappas.

It's a BOSE system, flat as a pancake until you crank it up a bit, it's just fair sounding.

I think that its a lacking audio system when its low (volume) and when its high I enjoy it because its balanced, im in no need of car bouncing bass...

The base stereo is not Bose.

I have the base stereo too, and I was disappointed at first, but I guess I've gotten used to it. It IS flat. But I've heard the Bose system, and I don't think it's much, if any, better than the base. (I'm not a Bose fan anyway.) I tweaked the bass/treble/mid settings, and it's OK now. I'm not going to upgrade stuff yet (if ever) in this car. My last car I put in an amp, and all new speakers and it sounded great, but it was a pile of money, and I only kept the car three years. This time, I just can think of better things to spend all that money on.

Ooops, did't read close enough, yeah, it's not a BOSE, but I bet it's just as bad. Nor am I a BOSE fan either.

The base stereo does sound flat. Very much so. Simply replacing the speakers with good ones (components in the front) will yield big improvement in sound. You don't even need to add an amp to get much better sound (but doing so will help greatly).

The radio reception is pretty good, I agree. However, since I hate ads and stupid people yapping in the morning thinking they are funny, I hardly listen to radio anyway

Tamas, have you replaced your fronts yet? If so or if you do, let me know how it goes and what you use. I would consider simply replacing front speakers, I suppose, but only if it really makes a big difference, and I confess I'm a bit skeptical it will. Thanks.

I don't mean to answer for him, but....

I'm in the midst of replacing mine (slowly but surely)...and had the thread from Tamas about his install.....

Thanks Gyro...
Yep, that sums it up - IMO go for the front replacement and see how much it helps. I'm sure it will help a lot. You can replace the rears later although doing all speakers will probably result in better sound.
If you want to make your job easy, go for those Infinity 6x8 components mentioned in the above thread.
