Power- and ground wire question

Power- and ground wire question
I need some help here.
I'm planning to install a subwoofer with it's own amp and an MP3 player in the trunk. The question is: is it OK to run one power wire from the battery and one ground wire to feed both components? Or do I need separate power- and ground wires for each component? Will I not end up with some ground loop or other problem when using just one set of wires?
If one wire is OK (certainly much easier), then how do I calculate the size of the in-line fuse I'll need?
I'm pretty green in this area...
Thanks.

You can use a distribution block and run 1 4 gauge power from the batt to the block. You can then run up to 4 separate 8 gauge power wires from the distribution block to the components you see fit. Each one should have there own ground.
