Possibly a TV
This is what I was talking about in a previous thread I posted. When I switch to the feature "EX" and then push the volume button in, I get what is in these pictures. The audio for the nav still plays behind it. Any ideas people?

I finally went around to testing this...that screen came up also on my navigation. I think its some sort of feature that wasnt implimented through the head unit. Reason why i think its through the head unit is because when i toggle my Aveletronics box, it doesnt blank out that screen. So it has to be after the dvd unit. Anyways its basically nothing.

The Japanese market had (maybe still has) an option for a TV tuner and backup camera that plugged into the head unit and LCD. When you have an aftermarket aux-in hack the HU is tricked into being able to switch to the TV interface when the power button is pressed, although the actual hardware isn't physically present.

Thank you for that informative piece G8rboy please continue. So is it necessary to have this avetronics box or are we able to find some adapter with which to plug in a standard dvd player? cause that would be super.

No... this was a Mazda OEM part (JDM only), long before the avetronics or other 3rd party stuff came out... but the tuner didn't work over here (don't know if it was differences with our cars, or if the broadcast standards are different). It also had no ability to plug in any aux video (like DVD), it just let you switch between Nav, TV and backup camera.

Stuck in a love triangle
If you want to watch tv on your nav, the full version of the AVElectronic system includes a tv tuner...or you could buy the budget version like I did along with a dvd player with a built in tv tuner.
