PnP Aux-In Solution!! with PIE Alpine Adapter
Seems to be the logical answer. I'm v9.53, and the PIE doesn't work for me. Of course, I have an early May 03 build date.
The older version probably adhered to a Mazda Spec that was trying to ensure that a valid CDC was hooked up, while they relaxed the spec to allow for things like the PIE to work the way they do.

I don't know what, if anything, my version HU has that others don't.
The "technicians" that my dealer hired to work on my nav system managed to fry my stereo, so mine was replaced under warrantee.

mine is ver 9.53
My Bose system, stock cd, and nav had version 9.53 (and of course, the PIE thing still doesn't work.)
I also found out something pretty weird. If you hold the text button in and then press the 3 button and hold it...in about 5-10 seconds it will blast the volume up to 26. You can then turn the volume down. Appearing just to the left of the station frequency is a little zero. if you press the up arrow on the left for scanning stations, it will change the little number and the sound inside the car sounds different (watch out, each time you change the number it blasts the volume up to 26 again.) There are some settings that appear to shift the sound mostly to the back right but others that add lots of bass, etc. Pretty strange.
Also, if you hold the text button in and then hold down the disp button, it will let you adjust the display's contrast.
So...anybody know if we could get these things flashed up to a later version? (like maybe it might read it from a cd with newer firmware on it or something?)
Thanks.
Martin

The micro would need to be replaced, a part that is NOT available for sale, if it was, who has the tools and talent to remove then resolder the 100 pin micro?
I would think not everyone that wants it.
There seems to be no easy answer right now.

Well poo - I was looking forward to giving this PIE thing a run to hook up my Sky-Fi XM receiver, but I just checked and I have v9.53
Would be nice if the PIE folks could come up with a workaround for these older head units..

On a serious note, those of you with 9.53 might be able to strike a deal with someone with a 9.55 radio to swap things out. It would take some effort, and you might have to trade some money (or include an MP3 player with the deal or something), but it is something that you could realistically do. The only thing that the 9.55 has over the 9.53 is the ability to handle this input, so as long as someone doesn't want that particular input setup, they won't lose anything.
I wonder what the software revs for our Mazda6 owners are. Maybe one of those fellers who have replaced their head units would be willing to swap out.

I have a quick question, are there three things you need if you have an rca plug into your mp3 player:
The PIE
The RCA adapter with two plugs
Then a third adapter going from two plugs into the rca male plug?
