I'd have to check - but it's sometime in September 2003.

Actually you can just leave everything connected if you are careful. If you leave the shifter **** on, it will prevent the threaded shifter shaft from gouging the black lacquer panel.
I just taped some piece of rug to cover that shaft to prevent scratching. Actually, it's a good idea to use some throw rug to cover the interior while taking apart the console - that will help prevent scratching up anything, be it the black lacquer or the center tunnel trim etc.

Agreed, but I believe there are four screws holding it in place.
Errrm... I think you're right

Bob, do you ever sleep?
Before you ask the same from me - I'm going to bed right now :D

That's consistent with the few dates we have, except for mine -- and mine is an exception since the stereo is newer than the car.

Usually during that ugly part of the day called <shudder> "morning". I'm a night owl by nature and now that I'm retired I don't have to adhere to somebody else's schedule.:D

For iPods or whatever its just an aux in, no way to control the iPod other than via the iPod itself...unless there is an MBus-to-iPod interface somewhere
YES finally this is actually perfect the m-bus converter for ipods. A company called Dension has their product called "Ice>Link" to connect ipods to stock and aftermarket radios and maintain the ability to use the fast forward...rewind features (it tricks the radio into thinking its a dcd changer). One aftermarket connection tool is to hook up to Mbus compatable connections...i think the kit is about 200 american but to finally integrate the ipod and allow to use the steering wheel controls is deffinatly worth it.

Tamas,

So you have the bose, single cd player, and no nav?

If so, where did you get your PIE MAZ/C-ALP?

Thanks,

Star

No, reread his post. Tamas has Non-Bose, single CD, and no nav.

FWIW, I have almost the exact opposite (Bose, mp3 player, and Nav) and mine works too. But my audio system is newer than my car. I think we're narrowing it down to when your audio system was built (or possibly which subcontractor built it).

The head units aren't going to follow build dates precisely, and it could also differ between the base and BOSE head units. To be more accurate, we would need to follow the build date of the head units. Now, I'm not going to ask everyone to go out and remove their head units just to start tracking it, but those of you who are trying the PIE unit (whether it is successful or not), please remember to get that information off of the unit the next time you have it out, and then PM me with the info so that we have it in case we find that we want to compare that information. Those of you who haven't, please PM me with your build dates.

Also, the thought that some units are looking for a certain response from a CD changer while others are not, definitely has some merit. According to this theory, that means that those of you who can't get the PIE to work, should still be able to get an Alpine changer to work (there are some of us who would much rather use a magazine changer, instead of a slot-loaded changer). So if anyone who already found that their PIE/AUX-in doesn't work for them, or in the future tries unsuccessfully, has the opportunity to try the changer to verify this, it would really help us out. It would either verify or eliminate that theory, and get us closer (and PIE, for that matter) to getting this working for everyone.

No - as Bob said, I have the base stereo. Just the head unit and the six speakers, that's all.

where did you get your PIE MAZ/C-ALP?
At Discount Car Stereo. There is a link to the RCA input cable on that page too. This appears to be the cheapest source for these right now.
However, as it was mentioned, I don't think there would be a difference in the PIE units themselves - more likely, the head units in the RX-8 are behaving differently. This is pretty much confirmed with the test Bob did, using the PIE module of thew. That one worked in Bob's car but not in thew's.

You all could check and compare radio software versions? I wish I had my brain with me tonight, but I can't remember the push button sequence to read version. I can find it and post tomorrow. Any how I think there are three verisions 9.50, 9.55, 9.63. All 04' units should have 9.50 or 9.55

Check your software ver. With the radio on - press and hold "text" and "preset 1" button (at the same time), the display will show version. The software versions for 04' should be 9.53 or 9.55.
9.67 will be the 05' software version (updated for SAT).
I DON'T KNOW if the software version matters but its another easy way to compare HU and see.
I DON'T KNOW what the differance is between .53 and .55 it maybe bose/nonbose??

Not on mine. That combination does nothing at all.

Mine says 9.55 - if Bob's radio will also have 9.55 then I think we might have our answer.

Let's get responses from the rest of those who have tried this before we get too excited.

haha i think this is going to prove what me and Bob have thought. that the newer HU ones with the latest Software are going to allow the Pie to work.

Question is.. can we get that software into the HUs that dont .. ?

Maybe.? most units have mask micro IC, the brain can not be flashed only replaced. plus the software for flash is not available.
I would like to see if this is the problem before trying to offer a solution.

Hypothetical question. If a head unit stops working, would it get replaced under warranty ??
