Or did you repaint the bezel?
That's one thing I did note somewhere in this thread (or maybe another one?)... it is definitely a better paint job than earlier kits. In fact, I have an earlier kit in my possession, and the difference is dramatic. There is a slight imperfection at the top left corner of the faceplate, but overall it's a very good match to the stock piece.

I'll try to get an even clearer picture of the entire faceplate, sometime soon.

Not sure exactly how Best Buy did yours, but basically you just move the yellow MUTE wire up one pin on the Pioneer harness, and then ground it with the parking brake wire. That's it! There are several videos on YouTube about it, but this one shows the entire process (however they yanked on that mute wire way too hard!): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjUq0_hCDLQ
naw, best buy didnt install mine at all lol a
I just finished that bypass int he video about 30 mins ago, and now my speakers arent working lmao...
now im taking it back apart to check the connectors to see if one came off... or possibly a fuse blew. that time i didnt disconnect the damn battery =/

Ahh, so frustrating sometimes, isn't it?! lol Don't see how the bypass directly affected your speakers, so yeah just check the RCAs/speaker connections, and fuses. I'm sure you'll figure it out!

Good to hear that you got it installed, and saved the money!

As for me, I'd rather spend the time working on the '68 Corvette Convertible, lol

Nothing wrong with a girl pampering herself after an install - or anytime. Glad you got it all done and working well. Always great to save money by doing it yourself, too! Not sure if you're familiar with the Towson area, but I got a quote from Audio Connection and they wanted about $700 for my install. They charge hundreds extra for anything you add, like satellite radio, Nav, steering wheel controls, etc. But, you can be sure they'd do it right, and warranty their work. Unlike Best Buy, where you don't know what you're going to get. Not that they do bad work -- I had 2 previous radios installed in other cars and everything was fine. I just don't know how they'd do on a custom install like mine.

Btw, big thanks to RX8Geek, who has given me some great suggestions about some of the issues I've been having, AND he's sending me a spare extension cable to try on my Axxess box.

Since the quality of the dash piece was mentioned previously, I thought I'd show a comparison between the one I have installed, and one from an older kit. It's tough to get a true representation with my camera phone, but you can definitely see the texture and dullness in the older one.

Thanks for the pic - yes, the difference is clearly visible.

At least they fixed the crappy bezel issue... now if only they could fix the control module problems

Yeah, tell me about it. Still have to rip out the radio again and try another extension cable. Along with the rear defroster and re-circ buttons not working, the Mode button stopped working again! If that new cable doesn't do it, I'll need to have Metra send me another Axxess box.

I just installed this unit with the metra kit and I can't get any sound out of the speakers. I have tried cds, radio, ipod nothing puts any sound out. I checked the connections, I checked the fuses. I can't figure it out. Anyone have any ideas?
(it's a non bose system I'm pretty sure, didn't have any rca cables or anything)

Either your head unit is bad or you have the bose amp in the car and you are not turning it on.

The bose amp turn-on wire is in location J on the main harness, and it's purple/black in the car. You should be driving that with your blue/white wire from your deck. That should be at 12V, or close to it.

To test your head unit, disconnect the front left speaker outputs (white and white/black) and connect them to the terminals of some other speaker, any speaker will do. Turn on the radio, and see if you have sound. If you do, your deck is good. If you don't, bummer.

Good luck.

Thanks for the help, it was the amp I guess. I'm confused about whether I have the Bose system or not. I have tweeters on the doors that say Bose, but nothing else in the car says Bose. I have only had the car for about 2 weeks now, but I'm pretty sure someone messed with the audio before. The bolt you have to remove up under the dash was already out and the lcd display was doing all kinds of weird things (would turn all pixels on sometimes).
What is the best way to see if I have the Bose system? or does having the tweeters that say Bose mean that I do?

Luckily everything (including the LCD) is working now. I just have to figure out how to add the control box for the steering wheel controls now (I ran out of light yesterday).

Thanks again for your help.

I just thought I would contribute these if anyone wants them, I pretty much copied the other style but wanted something with a red theme because I have the red/black interior.

Sweet splash screens. Thanks for sharing.

If your tweeters say Bose, you have the Bose system. You can also pop the trunk, stick your head in and look up towards the rear passenger side speaker. The Bose amp is right there. Silver colored. About 12"x8" roughly.

Ok, so I like variety so I decided to make a bunch of splash screens. Also if anyone wants something personalized (names, colors, whatever) or something and doesn't have the photoshop skills I'll be happy to hook them up.

Nice job! Could you possibly make the following with a deep blue color for the rotor housing and car, and keep the text in red?

]

Thanks in advance!

No Problem, did you want the flames to stay Red?

*Edit*: did you mean like this? or no?

Sorry, I should have been more specific with the housing part. lol That was my fault. I just meant I'd like to have the flames in the rotor housing colored blue. Although, I may also try the ones above too!
