well right now i have a laptop computer hooked up in the glovebox, so anything windows xp does. im going to do a full real car pc in the trunk later. the screen hooks up to the vga. also the touchscreen uses usb so its pretty simple.

now i just need a nice program to tie it all up

Like the man said... it can do anything that winXP does...

GPS navigation
internet
email
DVD
DivX
Mp3
games
internet radio
etc...

mp3car.com is a good place to start for information and help.

how does that tray work? does the screen just pop open as you slide open the tray, or do you have to lift the screen out of the enclosure manually?

Can you take a picture with it open from outside the car, looking down at it?

Thanks

How do you hook the power to the car ?

I've been trying to search and look at the service manual, but I guess Im too dumb to spot it.

Once I know where to tap it. I think I will be able to do everything in a few days.

Depends on your setup. If you are doing a CarPC... if you're power supply has the extra overhead, you can just run one of the 12v rails available for HDD, CD/DVD, etc. and run the screen from that or some CarPC power supplies have a separate rail specifically for screen or USB hubs.

If you are running a different setup or just want to power your screen up front... sorry... i can't help there. But Rotary Rasp or one of the other who have already installed their CarPC probably can help there.

Someone mentioned gauges and the scananalyzer ?

The screen can be powered from the power supply of the PC, or from the fuse box, or from one of the cigar lighters. All of them are fairly easy solutions:
- pick a 12V supply from the PC power supply and extend it
- tap into the thick solid green wire (constant 12V) going to the 30A fuse in the fuse box and time the Hard-Off of the screen
- tap into the two wires (12V switched and ground) from one of the cigar lighters.

but how do the *PC* get its power ?

It has to be somewhere, and I dont feel like tapping the wrong wires ...
