I also installed a Bass PEQ with remote in the empty MD slot. It sounds great and really compliments the Bose system.

Yea, It wasn't too tough. The only problem I ran into was a remote turn-on issue with the Bose amp. I ended up using a lead from the cigarette lighter.

I put the sub in every possible position as well, facing up, down, forwards, etc... Firing back and loading the trunk was the best.

Hi Dugless,

Nice pics! Where is the input to the amp coming from? The rear speakers?

If so, would it have been possible to use the Signal Sensing Turn-On feature of the JL 500/1 for the remote turn-on? In other words, just tap into the rear speakers and run it into the amp (since it takes high input), and flip the switch for signal sensing ON.

I'm thinking of getting a JL 500/1, so I was wondering if you had any thoughts about this. Thanks!

Thanks,
Duke

What did you pay for these components? I have been quoted $994 (tax and everything) for a custom box install with a JL 250 W Mono sub and a 10W3 JL subwoofer. Parts are about $668; custom box and labor the rest. Said they would tap into the front 9". Seems a little high- what are your thoughts?

It depends heavily on the end result.

Whether they make the money on the components or the labour is of no consequence really. You could ask how much it would be if you supply the amp and woofer from elsewhere to refine the price comparison...

If the "custom box" is an off the shelf cube strapped into you boot, walk away.

this is a high end shop which does do very good work. They are offering the same components, installed, in a standard (not custom built) box for $589- less than what they are charging for just the components for the custom box install. Thats what seems so much.

If i was you

If i was you and was planning on doing that. I would just buy the box and sub... then have best buy install it how you want it. I've always taken my stuff to best buy and they have never let me down A+++ on all the work they have done to all my cars.

Best Buy? Store shops?
Shudder... had my bad experience with a store shop once... that was the last time I ever took anything to a place like that.
