Newbie audio help
Hey,
New owner of an 05 rx8 GT MT with the bose system..
I dont really know much about car audio, actually i know nothing about car audio; but i'd like to 'upgrade' from my current bose system..
I know the bose system is supposed to be an upgrade already, but the sound coming out of it just feels very dull..
Im not looking to compromise on trunk space.. I dont want to win any competitions for sound either..
All in all, im just looking to upgrade the current sound system so that it has more 'thump' to it, while retaining the current head unit of the car..
I wont be doing the install myself, im just looking to purchase whatever is needed and go to the nearest audio shop and have them install it for me..
Do you guys have any suggestions?

gee thanks dozer
well the bose system is more of a treble system that gives the sound that live in your face feel. all its missing like you said is the thump. sulution/ 1 or (up to you) 2 12" kicker VR comps with a fostgate amp will make everything just perfect. had this setup and was so good my rear window came loose.

If all you are looking for is thump then all you need is to add a sub or two. It doesn't sound like you are looking for SUPER BASS either so just a single 10" might be enough for you. Since you are just tacking onto the bose system you'll either have to get an amp with speaker level inputs, or a line output converter in addition to the amp of your choice.

A single 10" will give you all the thump you want. Replacing the rear deck speakers with some quality components, and replacing the front tweeters as well, will give the otherwise muddy Bose system a lot more clarity . The rear deck speakers and front tweeters are something you could do yourself without a ton of experience. Adding a sub and an amp to power it is something probably best left to the professionals if you have no car audio experience.

Look for a good set of components for the front and pay a shop to hang a set of free air 8's in the rear deck. You'd be able to get a good 150x4 amp to run it all and not take up hardly any trunk space.
I think JL makes some, Kicker does, Oz Audio does as well. As for components, Focal, CDT, Critical Mass, Oz, and Morel are some of the best among the best. There are other great sets out there, but those are at the top of my list for sure. I've auditioned a lot of components and these were my favorites.
