New Speakers installed

My infinity's are in. The change in sound is notably better. Nice clean, bright highs without any distortion.
I went with the eyeball socket mount and flushed it in the panel.

Crossovers are in stock(Bose) location and a acrylic adapter was made to adapt the 6 1/2 round speaker.

I won't be redundant and show many installation pics, as my job was almost identical to that of Tamas.

Thanks Tamas, KKManiac and Whealey for previous pictures of door panel removal and installation ideas.

Looks good. I'll have to check it out in person the next time we get everyone together.

My tweeters are still sitting on the shelf waiting to be installed. One of these days I'll get around to it. :p

Very nice. Could you give us a bit more details about what speakers you bought, specifically, and how much you dropped on them and the cross overs? Thanks...

They are Infinity Kappas. They are a 6 1/2" component set. I think they were around $220. Crossovers were included. The aluminum tweeter domes are a perfect match for the interior as well.

I am running them from the head unit. I also have a set of Infinity Kappa 6x9's for the rear and an Infinity Basslink sub to finish it off.

Nice! So how much did the rear set and basslink setup run? I'm seriously considering something similar... been looking at Focal and Boston Acoustics so far.

I'm thinking about doing the same setup! I've been looking on ebay for those, but am undecided if I should go that route... The prices are a lot less than you'll find anywhere else, but they won't come w/ the Infinity warranty.

How is the Basslink working out for you? I'm also considering getting one of those (since it seems rotarygod won't finish his passthrough-box sub anytime soon )
Do you have some pics about the Basslink? How did you fasten it to the floor? Just started drilling holes or are there any special precautions needed?
Thanks.

I only have the front components installed so far. I do have the Basslink and rear 6x9's, but now I'm just waiting for a free afternoon to put them in. Like I said before....the new tweeters really brighten up the sound. Its a huge improvement as it stands now.....i cant wait to hear it after 3 way Kappas in the rear and a basslink.

I will post pics of the rest when it is done. My current dilema is where to tap power from. I would really like to avoid going to the battery if possible. There is plenty of power on the passenger side of the firewall.......its just knowing where to get it. Also, the basslink isn't terribly power hungry. If I was using 2 huge amps....I would go to the battery....but for a basslink?

The closest power is the outlet in the storage bin between the seats. It would be soooo easy to get it there. But I have to see what gage wire the socket uses. My guess is that it uses a small gage because it is not intended for a cigarette lighter. Then there is power in the fuse block near your left foot...I'm sure I can steal 20 amps out of that.

I'm assuming you're using the non-Bose setup and so the head unit is your only amplification? Do you have any trouble getting it loud enough without distortion?

Yes. Non Bose car. With the Kappas being powered from the head unit, it is surprisingly loud and clear. The stock speakers were absolutely useless. Very flat. My taste is a very bright sound. I'm always cranking the treble up on any stereo I ever had. The Kappas have a very highs. I just need the Basslink to fill out the bottom end.

That's my experience too. I have different (Focal) speakers but the result is pretty much the same like Gyro said.
I think the key is to use good quality speakers that are highly efficient too - then you should have no trouble with the volume.
Of course I'm sure adding an amp would make the sound even better - and I'll probably do that once I'm done with adding the sub and my Neo MP3 player.

I'm sort of leery of adding an amp due to the lack of real preamp signals....but I'm watching the threads on that topic too, because ultimately, that's probably the way to go.

I wasn't sure how efficient the stock speakers are...sounds like they're not as efficient as either the Focals or Infinitys so that's good to know.
