A good friend of mine who works in the Car Audio part of Bose told me last night that the new 8's (def. 06, but not sure about 05) have different subs and are tuned differently than the ones in my 04. He told me they moved to a different sub and a different amp. The new subs have the amps mounted to the subs themselves instead of a seperate unit in the door. He said that the current(not the new) subs emit some EM interference that conflicts with the key FOB system when the car is running. He said Bose and Mazda were aware of this in the 8, but it wasnt a major issue, but they are fixing it since they are doing new subs anyways. He says the new subs are a little deeper, so the enclosure/frame in my 04 wont take the new sub because the sub will touch the back of the enclosure. He said he has the new enclosure, but only for one door. I am going to see if he can at least get me one to retrofit my 8. He said the new subs will go down to 30hz. He said it wont be as good as an aftermarket, but he said it will be close to the bass response found in other bose systems. He was telling me about some stuff they were working on in $100K+ cars and its pretty sick...too bad that will probably never trickle down to us. If I can get the new sub, ill let you guys know.
