The switch to my neon underbody kit is next to the light dimmer and the dcs. My lights are red so I've been told by a trooper or two (LA and TX) that it's illegal to roll with them on because of that. I think other nonemergency vehicle colors might be more tolerable but I'm not sure. Mostly I see them on cars rolling thru a parking lot. Like last night, at Walmart. They were green leds on a green pontiac.

I've got a light kit installed, but I'm having a hell of a time running the wires. Where did you go through your firewall. Right now my connection is sitting at passenger side front. Would really appreciate some help on this one.

In New Mexico they are only illegal if you are Driving with them flashing. They can be flashing while you are parked, or on if you are driving (but not flashing). Hope that helps

I have an update. I did a substantial amount of research for where I live (NM). I imagine it'd be the same most anywhere. Basically you cannot have emergency colors, (blue, red). They CANNOT be flashing while the vehicle is moving on public roads. Mostly this stuff is governed by city ordinance, and there is a high probability that county and state do not have restrictions, or that they won't bother to give you a ticket for it out between towns. The really only fool-proof way is to call the local Police Traffic Office and ask, as the official documentation is extremely vague.

Below is an excerpt from Las Cruces, NM city ordinances:

Sec. 27-12-10-1.38. - Additional lighting equipment.
A.
Any motor vehicle may be equipped with not more than two side cowl or fender lamps which shall emit an amber or white light without glare.
B.
Any motor vehicle may be equipped with not more than one running-board courtesy lamp on each side thereof which shall emit a white or amber light without glare.
C.
Any motor vehicle may be equipped with not more than two back-up lamps either separately or in combination with other lamps, but any such back-up lamp shall not be lighted when the motor vehicle is in forward motion. (NMSA 1978, § 66-3-829)

Sec. 27-12-10-1.44. - Special restrictions on lamps.
B.
No person shall drive or move upon any street, any vehicle or equipment with a lamp or device thereon displaying a red light visible from directly in front of the center of the vehicle or equipment. This section does not apply to any vehicle upon which a red light visible from the front is expressly authorized or required by the New Mexico Motor Vehicle Code.

Hope this helps you guys. Kinda sux right?

So you bought a lighting kit.... and then waited 7 years for some random person to come along and post in a thread on RX8club.com before you felt confident enough that you weren't going to break any laws? If that really is the case, pardon my previous post.

I thought referring to Zumnrx8 would give it away for sure.
