Unhappy need a new setup :(

so i built my own custom "4080" box a couple months ago. I didn't realize the size of the 12'' type r, but I still managed to fit it in the box. It never "hit" properly, and whenever I turned it up it sounded as if the back of the sub was hitting something. I'm almost positive this was because the box was too small. Anyway I recently noticed the noise levels from the sub drop drastically, and the ring the sub was mounted to was cracked, so all i felt was air whooshing out of the cracks. I was sad to say the least that my money time and effort had gone to waste on this box, and I have gotten over it by now.

Anyway, I'm still deciding on what to do. I'm pretty sure my type r isn't damaged, but I need a new box to really test it out. I'm thinking of the Z-enclosures single 12'' mount (very nice and clean look), but I don't want to buy this box and find out my sub is gone. But I guess it wouldn't matter anyway, I could just get another 12''. I was mainly just wondering if anyone here has the z-enclosures box. How does it sound? does it make the trunk rattle like crazy? Would you recommend it.

ps. i don't want to buy the 4080 box. i'm a little tight on cash, and want a nice box but for a more reasonable price. z enclosures runs around 150 with shipping..so..either this or a generic 12'' box.

thanks for any suggestions.

Take the sub to a car audio shop and ask if you can throw it in a box just to see if it works... they might go for that..

and the zenclosures box is SWEET I haven't heard anyone complain about it yet..

If it is a reputable shop, they will definitely do this for you. They will most likely have a sound bench in the shop that includes a head and an amp for testing equipment. If they want your business they will most likely bend over backward to please you, I know my shop did when I worked there.

get the Zenclosure box and another sub. i got one with a 12" Kicker Solobaric L7. there's not too much rattle, only the license plate frame. the bass is very clean too. i highly reccomend zenclosure's box. it gets shipped very fast too.
