Exclamation Navigation's annoying WARNING message

Does it not irritate anyone else besides me to have to press enter each and everytime you start up the rx8 to get passed that freaking warning screen? It's driving me nuts!

I've looked everywhere on how to disable the warning function, but i've come up empty handed. Perhaps someone here knows?

It doesn't look like it... there was a thread for a while looking at hacking it to disable the message, but nobody came up with anything. I would guess the OS in the Nav system would have to be flashed to accomplish this. While there has been a flash update released for the Nav unit, it didn't do anything about the nag screen unfortunately.

I doubt you'll find any nav system on any vehicle sold in the U.S. without this "feature" -- it's a result of our litigious society.

Same think on the BMW Nav and many others (also on my Garmin StreetPilot 2610).

Welcome to the litigation happy world we've created and the anticipatory protections created by manufacturer's legal depts.

That's just ridiculous. There are no warning screens requiring me to agree not to drink and drive or talk on my cell phone while I operate a motor vehicle each and everytime i start up a car!

just wreck your car and sue mazda. within a year we'll have a little printer that prints waivers for you to sign before you drive your own car.

You push the button once, and it goes away. Why is this so hard? I'm not trying to be mean, but it just isn't that big a deal to me.

If it truly went away, that would be great, but it comes back every time the power is cycled... which can get annoying if you're making multiple stops while driving somewhere. I agree it's a minor inconvenience, but I would have rather signed off on a legal document at the time of sale that I understand that I shouldn't play with the Nav while driving, rather than push 'ok' everytime I want to use the system. To me it's no different than 'don't play with the stereo', or 'don't do your makeup in the mirror'... If the stereo had that kind of reminder every time you started the car, nobody would put up with that.

You know, I guess when I've used it, I really haven't had to make multiple stops, maybe one or two stops over a long distance, so that's why it doesn't seem like a big deal to me.

I know if my TV had that kind of warning screen, I'd scream bloody murder. Then again, I'm the type of person who will search and search the whole house for the remote rather than just walk up to the TV and change the channel. :P

That sounds familiar, and TiVo has only made it worse

I think I would use the nav all the time without that warning... I love seeing where parks and lakes are that I didn't know about, as well as golf courses, amusement areas, etc.

I wonder if other cars sold with NAV systems that are part of the dash (i.e. not pop-ups) have this warning as well when the car is started?

If I recall the 2001 Acura TL I test drove had a similar warning. I've accepted that I simply have to hit Enter every time I get in the car. Though on a few rare occasions I've noticed that the normal key beep isn't present.

Funny you mention the no beep on rare occaision. It happens to me also. What is interesting is it has happened both before and after the Nav was replaced.

Yeah. Typically when I get into the "no beep" situation nothing but a power cycle will get it back. I've tried going into the setup menu and turning the beep off and back on. I've also tried the "reset" button I found on one of the normal menus but all it did was reset the preferences back to the defaults.

I've done the same. I've also found that it will start working again (beep when I push the control) after a few minutes.
