My sub setup

I just finished installing my subs yesterday.

Boxes: 4080
Subs: 10' Infinity Kappa Perfect - 400 watts RMS, 1400 watts peak - 4 ohms each wired together in parallel
Amp: Infinity 1211a - 1300 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms
Cap: Tsunami 2 Farad cap

I lost exact amount of the cost but everything came to $1500-$2000.

I made a amp box to fit inside the trunk indent and cut a plexiglass to go on top of it.

Here are some pics of me making the box.

The side panel had to be modified so the power cable could run under it. All the taps had to be dremeled off.

4 gauge ground wire going to near by bolt. While this is not as good as running a wire directly from the amp to the battery, it was the easiest way to do it now. In the trunk I connected the ground to a bold behind the black plastic piece near the door release button.

Finals pics. I'm loving the bass these guys put out. I still gotta put some fans in to keep the amp cool. I'm planning to buy at least one of these: http://www.cardomain.com/item/STISF3N

Post your opinions.

holy crap! that's an insane setup... you put alot of work into that!

I just recently bought a sub, and plan on buying a permanent amp for it later... I plan on designing the box so that the sub box would fit in that lowered compartment in the trunk, also the subwoofer itself would be pointing down with the vent on of the top of the box pointing forwards or right of left? I guess the vent pointing doesn't matter, the size does though...

But your install is so clean, it's gonna be my DIY now...

Kicker 8" L7 '06
Alpine MRP-M450

Cost: 350-400?

Though I think I'll see how a Kicker 8" L7 sounds facing down first before I do anything permanent... Also funny cause I plan on also using 0 guage, even though it's completely excessive for a 400 watt amp...

Keef 10-08-2006 04:28 PM

could you somehow give me the dimension of that box holding the amp though?

Here's the measurements I took, everything is approximate. In the end I made two templates out of posterboard and spent some time making sure everything fits. Once I had those templates cut out makeing the box and the plexiglass top was easy.

yeah 0 gauge gave you alot more work than was necessary..

but what have you done about the ground? unless you ran a wire back to the batt you pretty much negate any benifit you get from having a high gauge.

Did you test your ground before you grounded there?

a good ground would help your heat issue too. read the grounding sticky, it's good info

shivangp 10-09-2006 10:26 AM

I don't have the ground going back to the battery just yet. I measured the resistance to be ~2 ohms and that doesn't take into account the resistance of the wire I used or the DMM's own resistance. Within a few weeks I will be running a 0 gauge cable back to the battery.

I haven't done it yet because my apartment complex doesn't have access to any outlets outside and I don't have a cordless drill. In a few weeks when I go back home I'll install the ground cable properly.

Hey, I'm a little confused on the wiring... I understand that I'll have to tap into the speakers before the Bose amp, but don't know which ones... Where's the DIY for knowing which wires to tap into?

I've searched, but can't seem to find to actual DIY for attaching an amp/sub to the Bose system

shivangp 10-10-2006 06:21 PM

Here's the diagram I used: https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...129#post252129 post #34.

Keef 10-11-2006 11:09 PM

I'm still confused as to where you attached the remote turn on input to? Does the Bose amp have a REM itself?

WikkedOne 10-12-2006 12:11 AM

Keef- there is an awesome sticky thread at the top of this forum that has everything you need
Speaker hookup thread

inside that thread you will find all of the wire colors and everything to need including how to tap the ACC for remote

Remote link

Great setup there. I absolutely love Infinity, I'd have to say they are my favorite brand. Even though I've got a Kicker Comp VR with a Kicker KX amp in my car for teh low end... :/

I'd love to have your sub setup with either Focals up front or more Infinity Kappa Perfects. Had Kappas in my Silverado and loved them.

ElPaco13 10-20-2006 01:36 PM

I'm straining my eyes, but I can't see where you ran the power wire thru the firewall. I am right at that part of my install and I have been scratching my head as to where to go thru (I'm only using 4 guage). Also, did you have to remove the whole dash to drill thru?
