So i went ahead and got all this stuff and did some sort of install on it @ a local place. The install looks clean and everything but I am reading up a bit on this site and realizing that maybe since I bought the DQL-8 I should be tapping before the factory BOSE amp?

The other thing is, anyone using these HEX speakers? the installer guy said he didnt want to put more juice to em cuz he didnt feel comfortable giving them any more power?

He's running the Mid @ 4ohm even though the HiFonics spec sheet says 170x4 @ 2ohm but 85x4 @ 4ohm which means it's underpowering the fronts & back isnt that the case?

Any audio guru in here, please enlighten me...

From what I could find, the speakers you bought from Diamond Audio are 4Ohm speakers. The amp needs to run at 2 Ohms for the full 170W RMS and the speakers just won't allow it since they aren't 2 ohm speakers.

As for what the installer said. I'm not certain how you would even give them more power since they are 4 ohm and the amp needs a 2 ohm load to put out full power.

I don't know which MB Quart speakers you are running, but chances are they are 4 Ohms as well and you will have the same problem of not being able to give them more power.

For the DQL-8, from what I have read on the site you should put it before the bose amp. It is a powered unit so it shouldn't have any problems using the low level signal from the Bose headunit. It also won't have any funky equalizing like it would after the amp. Another bonus is that you can just get rid of the amp altogether and make up some weight that you just added to the car with the subs or sell it on ebay and maybe even make up some of the cost of the new system.

So what you're saying is Sell the Midrange Amp and get one that can deliver 150RMS @ 4ohm or thereabout.

Absolutely connect the DQL-8 BEFORE the bose amp.

With the kind of wattage you are pushing you might need a bigger alternator

The Diamonds rock. We put them (aluminum tweeter) in my brothers Sky w/ a JL 300/2, but I think they sounded just as good w/ a 75 watt Eclipse amp.

A properly tuned quality 85 watts will push them fine. Depending what you are expecting, I would probably save your money and stick w/ the amp you have. Even if you jumped to 150 watts each, you will not notice a great volume increase.

Okay, that's good to know......

As for the dql-8, are you saying I should just take the bose amp out altogether then?

It is possible to remove the Bose amp completely. When my install is finished i will not have any speakers running off it, and it will be superfluous. I probably wont uninstall it though just because i don't want to take the rear deck apart. again.

You should keep in mind that the Bose unit has a front center speaker. You don't have to replace it, but you might get better stereo imaging by putting something in there, depending on how you set up your door speakers (are you using components with tweeters in the sail pods?) . I'm not sure how it would change the sound yet though, since I've yet to put mine in.

I'm going to be replacing my front center next week. I need to pull the radio anyways so while I have the dash open i may as well... I'll let you know how it goes.

Oh yeah. and 85 watts is more then enough to deafen you. Don't worry about upgrading the amp

Maybe some kind of diagram to show how audio leaves teh HU and in what pattern they go to their corersponding AMP and the dql-8 etc would help me but right now im still a bit confused...

The other thing is... everyone is saying i should put a set of 8s etc in the front door cuz the diamond audio 6 1/2s not strong enuff i keep telling em that they're top of the line speakers and they can take the juice but they (installers) say they dont trust em...

not sure, btw, i have the s600s (silk tweeter)...

You don't see many 8" components!!! 8s will not sound good in the front door unless you spend a lot of time & money fabricating boxes for them and adding tons of dampner.

Almost all custom installs are centered around 5 1/4 or 6 1/2 components. Diamonds are not the best speaker in the world, but they sound and perform great. You may want to go talk to some other installers. Most installers want to use what they sell to make more profit.

Since you already have them, try them out. If you don't like them, which I doubt, the adapter that is made will fit nearly every other 6 1/2 out there.

I recommend before the bose amp. Remove it or leave it in place. It doesn't matter. Look around this site, there are numerous write ups, pictures & daigrams of the wiring at the amp.
