Mp3 Player Switch Out

I'm in the process of buying an Rx8 and am looking at an option which is totally loaded save nav and the cd changer. My question is whether its possible to switch in the factory Mp3 player just as it would be if I would have ordered it from the factory, from this car's condition. Also does anyone have any experience with the Mp3 player, do you like it? Does it cost the same amount to add in a mp3 changer as it does the cd (listed on the build section of mazdausa.com as 500)? Thanks!

If you get a car with a Cd Changer, can you integrate that with mp3 CDs? So have a few mp3 cds, and a few standard. Does that work? The link was really helpful, thanks voodoo.

no, the 6stack cd changer is only for cd, then they replace it with the mp3, its a single disk mp3 player

Just buy an apple I-pod and stick an FM tuner on it, then tune it into your RX-8 car radio. You get all the flexibility and no in car installation. Sorted.

I have installed the MP3 in my RX-8. I had the Bose stereo with the single CD player previously. I personally like having the MP3 player. Having a disk changer is nice...but being able to fit 140 songs or so on a CD in MP3 format is really nice....plus the MP3 player also allows you to search through the CD in case you have file folders in case your looking for a certain band.....also the MP3 player will display and ID3 tags in the in dash display....song title...song artist....file name....song album. It is a really nice feature.

Of course you can install a FM tuner MP3 player and still keep your CD changer. You just wont have the display of the song on the dash...only in your MP3 handheld player.

It is really a matter of preference. The MP3 player with mazda will also play regular CDs. It is a very easy install....there is a DIY in the DIY forum....I was able to install the MP3 player in place of the stock CD player in just under a hour and a half. Save the money and do it yourself.....

You can order the MP3 player from any of the dealers in this forum for much cheaper than you can get it at your local dealer. I personally got the MP3 player from Trussville Mazda....I ordered it online and recieved it the next day.

Best of luck in your decision....you cant go wrong either way. Enjoy your 8!

My car also came with the stock cd player. I bought an mp3 player used from someone on this board ($170), and installed it myself. It wasn't too hard, just unplug some wires and unscrew a few screws.

Worth the upgrade, but I don't know if I'd have to pay $300+
