I dont know what he was thinking :uhh: sometimes i think that guy is lost... as far as getting the cable back from him or getting him to respond... you all better PM him a lot because it took him 1 & 1/2 months to pay me for the METRA KIT.....:wavey: GOOD LUCK getting the cable passed around... |
I would like to be added to the list . . .
|
Please forgive me for my dumpiness. Is this cable and update program gonna solve the auto AC problem? I bought mine recently and it said it was ver 1.4. Help please.
|
if there is still a cable going around, i would like to be added to the list as my clock is losing time. i would rather not have to send my box back to metra to have them update it but if i get a week with bad weather where i won't be driving anyway (aka - the winter), then i will just have to wait until then to send it. i'd much rather just flash it myself though.
|
so whats the word on the cable? who has it now??? still waiting...this time thing is getting annoying lol. i have to explain to everyone that gets in my car that its off lol and the display also flickers but i dont mind that=)
where the cable at? |
Hey guys i just recieved the cable a day or so ago ill be doing the update this weekend whos next on this list and can i get a pm with the address?
|
Nice to see this cable is still going around...
|
here is what the list is from what i can tell:
*edit: moved list to last post |
You can cross me off the list -- I grabbed a cable elsewhere. When I plugged it in it said it was the latest firmware version -- but my clock is still losing time. Any thoughts? Bad box?
Thanks! |
i had read somewhere about maybe forcing the update anyway and that solved the problem but i am not certain as i haven't seen it myself.
|
Glad the cable is going around. The update was pretty easy and I'm so glad my clock is fixed.
|
hey, I'd like to be added to this list, i'm going to pick up the metra kit soon. thanks!
im in connecticut btw. |
just to keep this thing up to date:
prosk8er735 - currently has cable ZMNRX8 - VA lokaldisruption - CA mr80 - CA Scotchee - MD tamz273 - MA mkmike - NY Double Down - MO mbentley - IN iemdan - CT make sure to post up in the thread if you ship the cable to the next person so we have a better idea of who all is waiting. |
Ok... sweet. I hadn't thought about this in a bit... Guess I'm next! I'll PM prosk8er with my address and once I get it I'll post to get lokaldisruptions address.
|
what all can you do with this cable? sorry ive never heard of it
|
kevk - This cable plugs into your engine, and it acts like 3 Turbo kits put together. Its a one time thing too, so once you plug it in, and install it, thats it! You can pass it on to the next person and your car will perform insanely quick!!
Get on the list! |
 @ tamz273
kevk - it is used for updating the firmware of the axxess box used with the metra kit which allows you to use an aftermarket stereo. there are problems with the firmware that is shipped with the axxess box that causes problems with the clock and other random problems with older firmware revisions. |
so iam to understand its for use with an after market radio not the stock radio right? i was ont he companys site and noticed most of what they had was add ons to the stock radio

yes. it is required because things like the climate controls & lcd screen are integrated with the factory radio. when you remove the factory head unit, you need something to control those functions. the axxess box does this. it is provided with the metra kit.

Where can I buy a cable? I plan on opening my dash back up to get to the sub pre amp RCA outputs when I install my subs, and would like to do the update at the same time. Problem is, I have no idea when I will be doing that, so if the cable isn't too horrible a price, I could just buy one, and then start shipping it out with this thread :) [when I am done of course]
|
what you need is a 'usb-cab' cable. the lowest i've seen is like $50 which i think is ridiculous for something i am going to only need once.

Hey,
Can the person who has teh cable take a few close up pics and post them here? I want to try to make my own since it cant really be THAT hard.. A USB cable contains 4 wires in it, and the "CAB" tip seems to be a pretty generic end bit.. I just need to know which wire are going to which pins, and try to splice through two ends of different cables (a USB and a "CAB") and wire them up correctly.. Thanks! |
there a few in google images:
http://kollmanradio.com/images/USB-CAB.jpg it appears to just be a usb cable with a header from what i can see. pretty lame for the price. the connector reminds me of a 4 pin floppy molex power connector from the pictures. |
Check This Site
The last post has a link to a Europe site selling a cheaper cable, and which way to arrange the pins once you get it. Also the 3rd to last post gives the exact model of the cable. Google searching that returns a few results with similar looking cables to the one on the EU website. (maybe the same ones?) I pretty much have the same idea. I already know how to solder, I might as well dig up an old floppy drive connector (how much you wanna bet thats what Metra uses?) and DIY one myself. No point in forking up $50 for something so easy to make for $1-5... |
