Metra kit is out
Hey guys,
Just had this installed yesterday using the new kit. I LOVE the look.
I would think the angle is acceptable to view from the back seat.
If anyone would like I'll snap a pic from the outside of the car looking in.
This is my camera phone so pardon any lack of quality. My red screen now says "Zoon Zoom"

Hell, if someone doesnt do it soon, I may buy it my damn self and get it started. I'm sure you could double your money after a year, unless some douche decides to keep the cable.
lol are you serious? dude where have you been lol, read the last few pages, you need to update your axcess box to the latest firmware to not have the clock run fast. if you do have it updated to 1.4 and you are having that issue then you got a messed up one. otherwise you need to update your axcess box to version 1.4 via the usb cable and the update on the web site someone mentioned on this exact page or the page before, cant remember off hand.
A couple of updates...regarding those extension cables: I finally got around to calling Metra, and they sent a pair of them out to me no questions asked. So, it seems they're finally officially available now, if any of you need them. I'm pretty sure they're part of the newer kits that are selling now.
The other thing...a while back I mentioned that I broke a wire out of one of the harnesses by accident, and now my display, temp control and AC/defroster/whatever switch don't work. FWIW it was the brown wire in temp control harness. So, I repaired that...and nothing has changed.
I still have no display, the switch doesn't function and the heater is constantly on. The only thing that works is the fan speed control. Well, the hazards still work. So this got me to thinking. Has anyone ever not connected the access box at all to see what its really controlling? I know the fan speed control has a direct connection to the factory harness, as well as to the Access box. Maybe my Access is totally fried?

I just bought 2nd Metra Kit for my friend 8.
As people already have mention above.
I found out that not only firmware update, the kit also comes with 2 extra wires.
Check out old (10/08) compare to new release (01/09) manual.
With old kit, installer needs to remove 2 cables from OEM head unit.
And the cables are so short, which make it very hard when installing.
With new kit safe a lot of time and installation is also a breeze.

What is the firmware version on the kit you recently purchased. Wow, I bet installation is much easier with the extension wires. It was a b!tch getting the wires connected with older kit.
Maybe it's because I didn't get the GLOSS version but my flat black matches good and I think I actually prefer it this way since the rest of the car isn't glossy why should my install kit be? It matches the ash tray now.
I ordered the glossy finish and I am glad they sent me the wrong one now.
I also got the extra cables sent to me by someone on this forum, and I could not imagine even TRYING to install it without them.

My friend's is V. 1.4 and everything seems fine.
For the RCAs do I need to use a low line converter...
to drop the voltage on my alpine RCA pre-outs to the speaker wire??
I was just going out to the car to get the wire harness and saw people on the AVS forums mentioning it.
I didnt know if any of you used them or you just wired up the RCA's to the speaker wire and then plugged them into the HU pre-outs, I have 4v pre-outs and was wondering if this would screw up the bose amps in the car...

Still need the cable? visit this thread https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-interior-audio-electronics-24/metra-kit-update-need-cable-look-here-172024/
Are there any steering wheel control solutions that do not introduce control delay? Is the delay specific to the HU, or is it unavoidable? I've never put a deck into a car with steering wheel controls, so I just don't know anything about it. Call me ****, but for me that is a dealbreaker. A 1 sec, or even a .5 sec delay would probably bug the hell out of me.

Obviously if the delay were fixed it would be better, but deal-breaker? Its nowhere near as annoying as (a) not having steering wheel controls, or (b) using the stock stereo. Really..you do get used to it. Its been reported that you can't use them to back up a track, but that's not true...I can do it. I know it definitely works a lot better since I "re-taught" the thing the button presses with the car running.
