Steering control interface, yes, you need to get back behind the radio.
If all your fuses are good then I have no idea whats going on with your lights. If you made sure all your fuses are good, and you plugged in the hazard light harness to the back of the dash kit then everything should be fine.
I'll do some research, play with a couple different things on my 8 tomorrow when I'm bored in the shop and see if I can't figure something out for ya!

I just got my metra kit single din installed. What a chore! I started at 0800 and got it in and done at 1430. I wish they would have been more clear in the instructions how much of the dash subframe they wanted cut out. Anyways I have the Bose system and connected the speaker wires to RCA ends and it sounds great! If you turn the volume to 0 you can hear a VERY faint static but it has to be totally silent to hear so I'd say go that route if you have Bose. Thanks for the help guys!

axxessinterface.com download page
Then follow the instructions. Once you download and run the Axxess WebXXpress Updater program you will have version 1.4 in your files. Then just run the bootloader program to update your axxess box.
(from the site)
"Instructions:
Download the Axxess WebXXpress Updater program here.
Connect your Axxess interface piece via the USB-CAB cable.
Execute the downloaded setup.exe file.
Follow through the setup, once loaded, to update your product.
Once complete, You are now up to date!"

I assume you mean the headliner? That SOB was dirty when I got the car. I made it worse, by making the mistake of not having 100% clean hands when I removed the map light assy for the V1 hardwire.
I have tried soap/hot water, and even degreasers and cleaners...and it seems that once something gets in the headliner fabric, it is there to stay.

You're the 2nd person who has said that.
To my knowledge it is stock.
There are no custom mounts for the trans or anything...everything mounts just like stock, so there should be no difference in transmission position in the vehicle.
The shifter looked stock to me and does not appear to be aftermarket. I got the swap parts from getreddy2greddy, I asked him if the shifter was supposed to be that low (he has seen more stock 8's than I have) and he says that the shifter was stock as well and that is how it should sit.
Regardless, I love it.
The only part that sucks is, when I get in my rx-7 I feel like I am driving a dump truck because the shifter is a good 2 inches higher.

I read in another thread where someone suggested it was a standard USB to 4 pin computer cable (like the 4 pin on computer boards). I am not enough of a computer nerd to know if this is the case or not...but I did find that in another thread during a search, I believe I was using the terms metra and bose.

It is a usb to serial cable with handshake lines cut.

Rotary that shift **** does look a good 1-2 inches lower than stock. What did you swap in your car, the tranny?
The monitor on your head rest looks beautiful. Really nice. did you run the wires inside the plastic behind the upolstry?

I just don't see a serial interface in that skinny wire.

Thanks to RotaryResurrection... Did the RCA out conversion like he said, and now I have perfect sound coming from my Bose amp and speakers, so much better than the Mazda/Bose headunit!

It does not come with it. You will have to find someone's or buy it. It is quite expensive.
The serial interface rests in the elongated plug. Serial to USB interfaces are actually very very simple circuitry. Considering USB is.. well.. universal SERIAL bus..

There is a gap between the monitors and the seat backs....I need to come up with some sort of cover material to fit around the monitors and sit flush with the seat backs.

Bro it is hard to read a thread when it gets as long as this one. It would be a lot easier if they would just make each page with more posts instead of having 4011 pages to try and click on. I understand their logic in combining all metra discussion here, but it is also a daunting task to start from the beginning and read through it all for one bit of information.
Some of you guys talk like we should just shut the forum down, and leave the archives up, because no one can ask any new questions, they have all (supposedly) been answered already. I understand not asking repetitive questions (such as 'where can I get a toybo kit for my 8 and make mad power, y0"), but why even have a forum if we are not here to answer others' questions?
Is it possible to modify a USB cable to work for this? You wouldnt necessarily have to replicate the 4 pin PLUG, but it would not be too hard to seperate 4 small wire leads on a modified USB cable and backprobe them into the plug in the dash that they need to connect to.

i have no idea how this applies to this particular use, but a full functioning USB to RS232 convertor requires a microchip or two, theres no simply splicing that will do it. you need about 12-15 components to do it and it'll cost ya about $10. But for the needs you have here i hope my post is irrelevant

sounds like we need to go in together and buy the update cable, and then just ship it around the country to the next member in the group buy. I'll gladly put in 10 bucks...
