Mazdaparts.com LCD/Navi kit
Quick q.... Does this thing come with the mechanics for automatic retraction or is it manual by hand? For $400 I would hope so but it doesnt look like it according to the pics. BTW I'm build a car pc and want to use this for my display.

i had the setup..do a search for "my lcd setup" theres a vid of me opening and closing it. Quality is ok...the brackets to hold the lcd are metal. Never felt perfectly solid to me as far as where the lcd mounts to the brackets that rotate it up, but overall it was a good buy.
Good luck

How much room is there in that hood? I know it will hold a 7 inch screen but how thick? What if you took the flip mechanism out could you put a 1 din unit under there and just use the hood to hide it when not in use?

nah not a lot of room in there, but i guess you could cut the bottom out of the tray the lcd fits in and try to fabricate something. A single din might work though its about the size of a lcd. Basically theres just enough room for a lcd to lie flat..i forgot how thick mine was, im guessing around 2.5 inchs max?
Then again, why would you want a single din player mounted on top..where would the monitor be?

The monitor is a pop up monitor like robel82 posted a link to with full GPS dvd cd mp3 and bluetooth built in. I want to be able to hide it though instead of using the single din hood like he posted a link to.

ya i doubt it ...1/2 din you could get away with, full din I doubt you could get it to fit unless you hacked out the bottom of the tray. $350 is pretty steep though for basically a sliding cover at that point. Fabricate your own somehow out of the dash piece, two pieces of abs plastic with notches to slide over each other somehow could work out to a compartment that would fit a hidden unit.
Good luck on that pc setup from this thread, let me know how that turns out. Im not a big fan of that dash piece din thing, but with a pc itll prob be pretty good
