Mazda Sat radio coming this fall

My latest info from Mazda Corporate:

As you know, SIRIUS Satellite Radio is the latest addition to the exciting Genuine Mazda Accessory line. Launched last month for 2004 MPV and 2005 Tribute models, the Satellite Radio Receiver Kit (P/N 0000-81-G01) is available now through your PDC. Additional kits, for additional models (RX-8, MX-5 Miata, Mazda3 and Mazda6) will be launched this fall.

This should have been a factory option when the '8 was released. Oh, well.

Any information how will this attach to the head unit? Is it going to be a module that takes the same place like the MD/tape player? What plug will be used? Can it be retrofitted to the current cars out there? Etc., etc.

When I wrote mazda this is the response that I received:

Dear Stephan,

Thank you for contacting Mazda North American Operations. I appreciate
the opportunity to respond to you.

At this time there is not a satellite radio option from Mazda available
for current RX8 owners. However, I am pleased you took the time to
bring your suggestion regarding adding the satellite radio as an option
for the RX8 to our attention. Consumer feedback is always very
important to Mazda. Certainly, we want to offer exciting vehicles, and
comments such as yours help us to achieve that goal.

Rest assured I have documented your suggestion for our corporate
record. These records are continuously being reviewed by our Product
Planning Department in an effort to provide only the highest quality
products to our customers.

Again, thank you for contacting Mazda. It has been my pleasure to
assist you. Please feel free to reply to this message with any further
questions or comments.

I sure hope so and soon and not modulator. I have had sirius radio a kenwood system for 2 years and really really missing it. I can only listen to so many CD's and hate a radio. So to get my fill I have to drive hubby's truck.

No Sirius in my RX-8 was the only con when purchasing my car and it was a BIG one for me.

HURRY UP MAZDA and DO A GOOD JOB MAKE IT RIGHT.

Hmmmm I wonder tho.....

But doesn't the 2004 MPV mentioned at the top of the article basically have the same type of radio as the 2004 RX-8?

I was researching the Sirius options for our car and the best idea I came up with is the FM modulated Kenwood. The display is small enough to fit behind the ashtray compartment (some modification, of coarse). I think that unit would look sweet there. The silver with blue lights will match the interior nicely and it would be hidden by the ashtray cover when not in use. Perfect!
