Loss of speaker power

About a month ago I drove home, just under 200 miles from where I am stationed. When I got close to the end of the trip the front speakers cut out. I made the trip again yesterday and the same thing towards the end of the trip. Don't believe its a short, because it takes a long time for it to happen so I never notice it on my daily drives. Could the amp be getting to hot and cutting the power to the front speakers? The rears still keep working but the front components and tweeters cut off. I turn it off for a few minutes and then they start working again.

Yes, sorry forgot to mention it is aftermarket. Overheating is what I assumed, thank you. I will take it to the installer this week.
