Looking for 8 Audio Suggestions

Hello everyone. I'm new to this sight and anything car related in general. Since I got my 8 one week ago, my first priority is to at least get a semi-decent system in it.

I'm not looking for anything too fancy, once said and done I'd be willing to spend somewhere between $700-1000. I have an 06 MT 8 and either need someone to give me some exact suggestions or to at least forward me. Like I said, I don't know much about car audio or cars in general but I'm trying to learn, which is why I'm here. The main problem I'm having is that on these boards, everything is already over my head.

First off, should I get one of those Ipod docks that install into the back of the head unit where the MD player is installed? Also I saw another option would be to take out the entire CD drive and replace it with one that can read MP3s. Either would be a decent option for me but I'd like some opinions. Are there any other options out there because the two threads that presented those options were somewhat out dated when they were started. Do I have to be concerned with loss of quality or noise with the Ipod?

Also as far as speakers go, could I just replace the ones that are already installed in the car with speakers of better quality without having to deal with custom trunk mounting or anything like that? If so, what would be some options?

Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks

he's got a point though, some of the things discussed here are not easily understood by someone who doesn't have an intermediate knowledge base of car audio and electronics.

Maybe someone should put a sticky the most beginner friendly topic from the past. One that explains where the stock speakers fall short and the best bang for your buck in fixing these imperfections.

OK 8 audio suggestions -

1) if your going to go with cheap stuff, don't bother

2) if your going to do do it half-assed, don't bother

3) know what goal you want before you start looking for stuff

4) spend ALOT of time looking around, almost everything has been covered in triplicate on this board, the search feature will save your life

5) a good LOC is one of the most important pieces to a good system

6) ebay has good prices, but be VERY careful you don't get ripped off

7) Alpine is arguably the best "bang for the buck" and is my personal preference

8) if you want to remove the HU for ANY REASON take off your shirt and put it over the shifter so you don't scratch the piano black! (or you will hate yourself forever)

Go to any walgreens pharmacy and buy a "noodle" it's a long foam pool float. it runs about 2 bucks and is about 5 feet long. It's hollow in the center and is slightly smaller then the diameter of the shifter shaft. Cut to size and never worry about another scratch!
