I do not own an RX8 yet but when I get one I plan to install a CarPC. I'm trying to determine if I should bother getting a car with factory navigation if I am only going to use it for the screen.

From other posts I've seen it looks like it's possible to use the factory screen for a CarPC. Does anybody know the native resolution of the factory screen and what is involved in getting it hooked up to a car pc? Is it a touch screen and can the touch screen feature be used on a car pc?


I'm also considering a few of the aftermarket screen mounting options:

1) Nav Tray. Personaly I don't like this options as there is no way to hide the LCD


2) Retractable Nav Tray. This looks like a good option, but I don't think it is motorized.


3) 1 DIN Dash Mold. I like this options as well, except for it not hiding the fact you have an LCD as well as the Retractable Nav Tray.



Are there other options I should consider? I don't want to mess with anything like the CorkSport kit that replaces the entire head unit. Also I'd prefer retractable options the mount to the dash.

those are pretty much all the options that ar avil. other then fab-ing your own, white some of the members have done.

lol thanks! i did search... but i had no idea the second one was actually made by mazda, and didnt know what to search for...

 

yeah i have the jdm nav trey and if you have any questions about it feel free to ask.

it was $347.82. i went with a 7' touchscreen(http://store.mp3car.com/ProductDetai...Code=MON%2D016)

screen was $251 and is touch screen through usb. it has an addtional input for like a playstation or whatever
